Timeform View

ON THE RIVER returned to form when third at Newcastle last time, despite coming from further back than ideal, and he can build on that effort to take advantage of what is a workable mark. Next best could be Hot Cash, who looks interesting back on softer ground, while The Sweet Escape would enter calculations if taking up this engagement.

Timeform Comments

Priapos (IRE)
On the up when completing a second double of his career in the Carlisle Bell in June. Has found things tougher in higher grades the last twice, though he drops back down to class 4 level here.
Nostrum
Smart earlier in his career but struggled for David O'Meara in 2025. More encouraging signs on occasions for new yard this year, notably his Sandown second in May, but down the field on his last 3 starts. Lurks on a dangerous mark as he drops in grade.
Walsingham (IRE)
Gained a fourth success for current yard at Pontefract in April. Had excuses a couple of times since before running well when fifth of 18 in the Golden Mile at Goodwood, though was below form at Ayr 8 days later. Could fare better with conditions in his favour.
Hot Cash
Winner on soft ground at Carlisle last summer and returned to his best with runner-up efforts at Thirsk and Epsom in May/June (both on good to soft). Below form the last twice, but no surprise to see him bounce back with conditions to suit.
Golden Redemption (USA)
Maiden winner for Andrew Balding last summer and placed in handicaps on his next 4 outings. Down the field at Newmarket the last twice, though faced a stiff task from out of the weights last time. Yet to run on soft ground as he makes stable debut.
Count Palatine (IRE)
Produced a career best when scoring at Carlisle (7f) 11 days ago, with all 5 of his career victories having come in August/September. However, has yet to fully prove himself on soft ground.
On The River
Encouragement on first 2 starts this season and, after a couple of lesser efforts, got back to shaping well when close third at Newcastle 5 weeks ago. Races from 2 lb below last winning mark and he could be set to gain a third course success.
Highland Olly
3-time winner this season, proving at least as good as ever when scoring at this course (7.5f) in July. Hasn't been in the same form the last twice, though, mid-field back here 18 days ago. Cheekpieces reapplied.
Tele Red
Recorded a first success of 2024 at Pontefract (1¼m, heavy) in October. Backed that up when runner-up at Doncaster only 4 days later, clear of the rest, but has been absent 10 months since.
Wondrous Light
Made a winning return over this C&D in April and also scored readily at Nottingham (good to soft) the following month. Shaped as if still in good form when making the frame against the males at the same course (soft) in June, but more needed in this contest.
The Sweet Escape
Recorded back-to-back wins at this course (7.5f) last month and improved again when scoring in good style at Newmarket (1m) 16 days ago. Up in grade but he would be respected if taking his place in the line-up. Engaged 4.10 here on Saturday.
Financer
Returned to winning ways in 4-runner contest at Redcar (1¼m) in July and bounced back from a below-par run when second at Pontefract 2 weeks ago, though didn't prove the strongest in the finish. Switches back to cheekpieces from the blinkers.
Panelli
Opened account at Lingfield last autumn on final outing for George Boughey. Runner-up twice on all-weather early this year but below that level back on turf last 3 starts, racing too freely tried in a visor at Newmarket 24 days ago. First run since leaving Stuart Williams.
