MALACHY'S WISH has progressed well on the all-weather of late and having broken his maiden on turf last season, is fancied to translate that improvement back onto this surface. Bunbury Cup winner Aalto ran well in the International here last time and is also shortlisted alongside the hat-trick seeking Jonny Concrete.

Timeform Comments

Aalto (FR)
Regular slow starter got back to winning ways in Bunbury Cup in July and backed that up with creditable third of 16 in the International at this C&D (good to firm) 41 days ago, caught further back than ideal. Not out of things.
Best Rate
Won back-to-back handicaps at Ascot and Pontefract in July before solid third of 5 from career-high mark at Sandown later that month. Unable to land a blow on his last 2 starts, though was badly hampered when eighth of 12 in handicap at Newbury (1m, firm) last week.
Jolly Roger (IRE)
Consistent sort was placed on 2 of his 3 outings last season and held his form well in the UAE this winter. Posted another good effort returned to Britain when second of 9 in handicap at Redcar (1m, good) in April. Absent since but respected with cheekpieces back on.
Jonny Concrete (IRE)
Consistent in-frame over 6f first 4 starts of the campaign (beaten favourite on each occasion), before getting back to winning ways in 18-runner contest at York (7f) in July. Followed up kept to that trip in an 11-runner race at Musselburgh 4 weeks ago and he's respected in his current form.
Veblen Good (IRE)
Successful on return/stable debut at Pontefract in April and has quickly made up into a reliable sprint handicapper typical of the yard, finishing in the frame 4 times since. Rare below-par effort when down the field at Thirsk last week but is the type to bounce back quickly enough.
Debrief
Returned in a Newbury novice that has worked out really well and took a big step forward as he landed 6f Brighton maiden in June. Progressed again to make a 5-runner event on handicap debut (6f, good to firm) and he's interesting stepping into this stronger race now.
Malachy's Wish
Much improved with success at Lingfield (7f, all-weather) on just his second handicap start early last month and ran at least as well under a penalty when second of 8 in handicap at Kempton (1m) 16 days ago, just picked off late by a well-treated rival. Scored on turf last year and is shortlisted.
Suspicious Mindz
Proved well suited by the drop to a sprint trip when winning a 20-runner maiden at the Curragh (6f, good to firm) in June. Then left Mrs J. Harrington for 50,000 gns and made a successful switch into handicap company in a 6-runner event at Doncaster (7f) last month. Still on an upward curve.
