This can go to CROOKED PATH, who has made a positive start for James Owen and can race off the same mark as when runner-up in the Amateurs' Derby here last time. Charmaine and Naval Command may provide the chief threat.

Timeform Comments

Charmaine
Consistent sort who was a dual winner last year and got off the mark for 2026 when taking 7-runner handicap at Chester (1½m, good to firm, 7/2) 39 days ago. Remains fairly treated and looks sure to go well again.
Gordon Grey (IRE)
Completed a 4-timer (first success over hurdles) with 5-length victory over C&D in August on final start for B. F. Brookhouse. Placed for this yard in Bahrain over the winter but well beaten all 3 starts back in the UK since, including here the last twice.
Galaxy Star
Won a maiden at Kempton in March and improved on that when fourth in listed company at Goodwood (12f) in May. Progress rather stalled since but she remains relatively unexposed.
Epictetus (IRE)
Snapped a long losing run in 7-runner handicap at Sandown (1¼m) last month but hasn't really built on that and finished well beaten over C&D last time.
Naval Command
Still without a win but ran near best form when fifth of 7 in handicap over C&D (good to firm, 9/2) 56 days ago and is 3 lb lower now. Respected.
Duc De Kent (FR)
Dual winner in France who made a tentative return from 27-month absence at Chester in July and finished well held at Kempton since. Best watched at present.
Crooked Path (IRE)
Fair performer in Ireland who won at the first time of asking for James Owen at Kempton (1½m) last month. Ran just as well in defeat, off 7 lb higher, when runner-up in C&D handicap 10 days ago and no reason why he won't make another very bold bid.
