IN THE CITY went as close as he ever has to winning at Wolverhampton earlier in the month and a repeat could well see Warren Greatrex's 4-y-o get his head in front. He gets the marginal vote ahead of Federal Envoy, who landed a few tidy bets when making all on that same card 9 days ago and escapes a penalty. African Spirit is on a long losing run, but may fare best of the rest.

Timeform Comments

In The City
Remains a maiden but more promising signs since a visor went on, turning in best effort of the season down into a 0-60 when second of 11 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6f) 9 days ago. Every chance he will go one better here from the same mark.
South Kensington (IRE)
Landed the odds when winning at Southwell in May. Still in form when fifth next time but ran poorly having had a breathing operation when seventh of 10 at Wolverhampton (7f) 6 weeks ago. Usual tongue tie reapplied.
Federal Envoy (IRE)
Given a chance by the handicapper and resumed winning ways in a first-time visor in 9-runner event at Wolverhampton (7f) 9 days ago, making all. Escapes a penalty for that success so warrants plenty of respect with Loughnane taking over in the plate.
Bonnita
Got off the mark at Salisbury (6f) last September but well below that form on her 3 subsequent starts, most recently over C&D a couple of months ago. Handicapper drops her another chunk but needs to show plenty more.
Mighty Ruler (IRE)
Broke his duck over C&D in January and showed a bit more than previously on turf when fourth of 7 here (7f, good to firm) just under 6 weeks ago. Remains easily passed over given his strike rate (1-22).
African Spirit (IRE)
Sole success came at Newcastle for Ben Brookhouse on debut in 2023. Back in good form of late though for new yard, third of 12 at Wolverhampton (7f) 6 weeks ago. Eased another 1 lb and he's a must for the shortlist.
Winemaker (FR)
Three-time Dundalk winner who continued his low-key start for current stable when tailed-off last of 9 at Brighton (1m, good to firm) 17 days ago. Can only be watched at present.
Blue Collar Lad
Back from 5 months off with a good second over C&D in March and shaped as if still in decent nick there next time. Run of good form halted when last seen at Brighton 3 months ago and looks easy to oppose on return.
Chloe's Courage
Off the mark at Chelmsford (7f) last December but her form has been mixed since, running creditably when third of 9 at Brighton (1m, good to firm) 17 days ago. Likely to find a few too strong.
Beau Jardine (IRE)
Snapped a losing run on testing ground at this track in June. Has failed to build on that in 3 subsequent starts, falling some way short of capitalising on a sharp start when sixth of 7 here (7f, good to firm) just under 6 weeks ago. Now down to his last winning mark.
Edergole's Gift (IRE)
Fared better than of late returned to all-weather/a sprint trip when fourth here last month and did enough to back that up when fourth of 12 in classified event over C&D 10 days later (helped by racing handily). Cheekpieces back on and not without each-way hope.
