Timeform View

CRANACHAN looks a thorough stayer and Ralph Beckett's 3-y-o can make it back-to-back C&D successes. Irish raider Holy See is highly respected on the back of a career-best effort at Galway, whilst Stressfree is back in form and is lurking on a competitive mark.

Timeform Comments

Holy See (IRE)
Fairly useful winning hurdler. Much improved when useful winner on Flat handicap bow at Gowran (1½m, soft) in April and ran a cracker under top weight when second of 20 at Galway (17f, good to soft) 47 days ago, arguably unlucky not to score after coming wide around the home bend. Can go well again.
Stressfree (FR)
Usually reliable performer last year. Not quite as consistent this time round but recent sixth of 22 in the Ebor at York (1¾m, good to soft) was creditable and confirmed himself still in form when fourth of 10 in handicap at Haydock (1¾m, soft) last week. Still on a handy mark.
Tashkhan (IRE)
Really smart on the Flat in his prime but no win in this sphere since 2023. Was successful in a maiden hurdle over the winter but well beaten back on the Flat in the Northumberland Plate last time.
Dancing In Paris (FR)
Ended a losing sequence stretching back 2 years when seeing off 9 rivals in a 2m Ascot handicap on Shergar Cup day. 3 lb higher now and that rise is manageable if arriving in the same form.
Spirit Mixer
Edged out Dancing In Paris to win last year's Northumberland Plate but well beaten in latest renewal of that race and trailed home last of 10 to that same rival at the Shergar Cup last month. Others preferred despite reduced mark and good C&D record (3 wins).
Granite Bay
Reliable sort but has crept up the weights without winning since the beginning of last season, not far off his best when seventh of 20 at Galway last month. Can give another good account.
Tribal Star (IRE)
Has produced some creditable efforts in defeat in some good staying races this season, finishing runner-up at Killarney in July. No obvious excuses when down the field at Dundalk 4 weeks ago, though, and is now significantly back up in trip. 4 lb below last winning mark.
Pole Star
Successful 3 times in 2025 and largely in good nick this season without winning, doing all he could in first-time cheekpieces when third of 10 in handicap at Haydock (1¾m, soft) 7 days ago. Visor back on and can give his running again.
Cranachan
Ready winner of a 5-runner maiden at Catterick (1½m) in April and relished the emphasis on stamina on just his third handicap start in a 9-runner event at C&D 3 weeks ago. Up 9 lb in a better race but might be capable of following up.
Shipshape (IRE)
Has won 3 times for current yard this season, his latest success at this track (12.3f) in June. Found only one too good in his hat-trick bid at C&D later the same month but found that run of good form coming to a halt when fifth of 6 at Carlisle (1¾m, good to firm) 32 days ago. Type to bounce back.
Gentle Warrior (IRE)
Relished the step up to 1¾m last season, scoring in clear-cut fashion at Haydock before following up here. However, has typically flattered to deceive on a couple of occasions this year and he looks up against it from out of the weights.
Dunkeld Dreamer (IRE)
Consistent filly edged a tight finish in the Queen Mother's Cup at York in June. Again gave her running when third of 6 in seller at Goodwood (11f, soft) 13 days ago but first-time cheekpieces will need to have positive effect if she's to score from out of the weights.
