A tricky puzzle given the lack of obvious pace. There's no doubting that SAY WHAT YOU SEE arrives in the form of his life, though, and he gets the vote stepping up in trip. The main danger could be Valedictory, who finished ahead of a couple of today's rivals in a better race at York last time.

Signed off 2025 with a useful victory in listed race over this trip at Ascot. Needs to prove he retains that ability, though, having run poorly on first start back for Andrew Balding (following an ordinary spell over hurdles).
Valedictory
All the better for cheekpieces/1¾m when winning handicaps at Goodwood/Newmarket this summer. Wasn't far off that level when beaten 8 lengths at York (2m) latest (form starting to work out), and he has claims if another change of headgear has the desired effect.
Ernst Blofeld (IRE)
Wasn't held back by his quirks when recording a second career win at Kempton in late-May. Has been running respectably in top-end handicaps since, shaping as though ready for this step back up in trip when 7 lengths fifth (fourth won since) at York (1½m, good to soft) last time.
Team Player
Likeable and versatile sort who nearly made it 3 wins in 5 for Ewan Whillans at Newbury (2m) on penultimate start. Didn't run his race behind Valedictory at York last time, however, he's hard to discount on his previous form.
Say What You See (IRE)
Already successful at Pontefract/York this season. Continued in tremendous heart when running-on third of 16 (clear of rest) at York (1½m, good to soft) last time. Leading claims, with the possibility of more to come over this longer trip.
Dancing In Paris (FR)
Ended a losing sequence stretching back 2 years when seeing off 9 rivals in a 2m Shergar Cup handicap at Ascot. A 3-lb rise doesn't look prohibitive on his best form, and he should at least remain competitive here. Engaged 2.05 Chester Saturday.
Boatswain
Doubled his career/all-weather tally when bolting up in thin event at Southwell (2m) in early-July. Never involved off his revised mark at York (2m) subsequently (1½ lengths behind Valedictory), but this looks a much weaker race for the grade.
Arqoob (IRE)
Has his quirks but has been a grand servant for connections. Overcame a pace bias to complete a Newmarket July course double (goes particularly well there) last time. A 3-lb rise may just scupper his hat-trick bid.
All In You (FR)
Fairly useful sort who won 2 of his 3 starts on the level in France. Possibly wasn't best suited by the extreme test in the Ascot Stakes (2½m) on belated Flat return in June (having shown plenty of speed over hurdles) but may need to come down the weights, regardless.
