A strong pace could just tip this in favour of THORNABY ANNIE. Front-running Hatamoto likes it here and may well make another bold bid. Real Jack and Showtown complete the shortlist.

Timeform Comments

Kody B (IRE)
Fair Pontefract maiden winner (6f, heavy) at 2 yrs. Again below that form when beaten 6 lengths on first start since being gelded at Carlisle (6f) latest. Return to 7f and drop in grade can only help, though.
Derrygarran Lad (FR)
Lightly-raced 3-y-o who steadily progressed in maidens (placed all 3 starts). Better than he was able to show on handicap debut in first-time cheekpieces at Thirsk last time (scoped dirty post race). Others look to be more favourably treated, though.
Napolian (IRE)
Sole success came in a match race at Leicester in June. Looked unlucky when just failing in a first-time hood at Doncaster last month. Subsequently underlined his inconsistency at Newmarket, though has at least been given a bit more time between races here.
Mo Anam Chara (IRE)
Low-mileage 3-y-o. Off the mark in claiming maiden at Roscommon prior to a creditable ¾-length second (behind one breaking her duck at the 19th attempt) in a Gowran claimer on final start for Mark Fahey. Needs a bit more back in handicap company for new connections.
Thornaby Annie (IRE)
Keen-going filly who opened her account in good style at Wetherby (1m) in June. Chased home a fairly useful one at Beverley the following month and wasn't seen to best effect under an attacking ride on softer ground at Ripon (1m) latest. May be rewarded if ridden with more restraint this time.
Soca Star (IRE)
Remains a maiden after 13 starts. Upped to 7f for first time when adding another placed effort to her portfolio latest, finishing 3 lengths second of 8 in maiden at Catterick. Fairly treated on the best of her form, however, this may prove a sterner test of her stamina.
Hatamoto
Front-runner who made it 3 wins from 5 when just holding on in a course handicap (1m) last month. Since shaped well when dominating his side of the track at Redcar, beaten 6¼ lengths behind 3 who were much better positioned. Makes plenty of appeal in his bid to make it 3-3 in handicaps here.
Riffa Spirit (IRE)
Chelmsford novice winner (6f) whose standout effort for current yard came when close third at Musselburgh (5f) in April. Hope of a full-scale revival rests on refitting of tongue strap (wore for sole previous victory), though he does also have stamina to prove over this longer trip.
Showtown (IRE)
Maiden who's fallen a long way in the weights since a promising start to his career last year. Wasn't knocked about/seen to best effect in first-time blinkers at Newcastle (6f) latest. Usual cheekpieces back on for first try over 7f and worth a second look from his slipping mark.
Real Jack
Much improved when second in a Newcastle novice (5f) on final 2-y-o start in November. Since tumbled in the weights and best run for a while when 1½-length second of 12 in a weaker event at Catterick 6 days ago. Looks the type who could benefit from a first-time visor, too.
