He's only tried this trip once before but SIR LES PATTERSON seem sure to benefit from this return to synthetics and with his usual cheekpieces reapplied, Stephen Thorne's 5-y-o is put forward as the answer. His main danger may emerge from Eclairage, who has a cracking C&D record and carries a light weight partnered by a 7-lb apprentice. The Highway Rat is a regular in this race and he rounds off the shortlist.

Timeform Comments

Kerdos (IRE)
Snapped a lengthy losing run in first-time blinkers when edging a strongly-run 9-runner C&D handicap in July. Undone by a 5 lb rise in the weights back here (6f) the following month and yard look to have a stronger candidate in Sir Les Patterson.
Sir Les Patterson
Smart all-weather performer who hasn't made much of an impact on turf this summer. Bounced back to form when 2 lengths third of 12 to Dark Ace here in August but followed that with a shocker back on turf at the Curragh last month. Cheekpieces reapplied and plenty to like returned to this track.
Valiant Force (USA)
Showed himself still capable of smart form when winning over C&D in February but little to shout about since and is probably best watched. Won this corresponding race in 2024.
Chicago Call (IRE)
Useful as a juvenile but hasn't progressed this season, including in handicaps the last twice. Makes all-weather debut and the percentage call is to look elsewhere.
The Highway Rat (IRE)
Isn't the easiest to win with but took a step back in the right direction when fifth of 20 at the Curragh (5f, good to soft) 6 days ago. Return to this venue could allow him to build on that effort (5-time winner here, including this race in 2022).
Ipanema Queen (IRE)
Won 3 times (including over C&D) for Adrian Murray in 2025, including listed race. Highly tried by current yard before getting up late returned to handicap company in 11-runner event at Cork in July. Found out at Group 1 level since but should fare better here.
Prairie Girl (IRE)
Successful over C&D on first 2 starts early this year. After 6 months off, fared best of those held up when fourth of 12 at the Curragh in August but proved a touch disappointing when only sixth of 16 at Navan (5f, good) last month. Returns to all-weather.
Rosie Frith (IRE)
Forward-going type who posted a career best when scoring at the Curragh in August. Below form next time but showed enough to suggest she's back in good heart when sixth of 20 there (5f, good to soft) 6 days ago. Every chance if able to build on that.
Xerling (IRE)
Landed the odds in Cork maiden in June and showed improved form when only narrowly denied in minor event at Naas next time. Has failed to get competitive upped to listed level the last twice but could get back on track. This just her second all-weather start.
Eclairage (IRE)
Took a big step back in right direction fitted with cheekpieces when second of 9 over C&D in July. Didn't get her own way out in front at Cork 12 days later and worth a second look returning from a 10-week break.
