Timeform View

None can be dismissed in a cracking listed event but Ralph Beckett's low-mileage 5-y-o VALVANO impressed when returning from an absence to score at Southwell (form been well advertised) and he gets the vote with better still likely to come. Elarak is proving ultra consistent this season and could emerge as the chief threat, although Sondad holds very good form claims if his stamina holds out. C&D scorer Vafortino is another well in the mix.

Timeform Comments

Audience
Group 1 winner for the Gosdens despite not being straightforward. Form went the wrong way in Dubai for this yard earlier in the year but has found some consistency of late, placed 4 times before a respectable fifth of 7 in Joel Stakes at Newmarket (1m, good to firm) 8 days ago. Not out of it.
Elarak
A 3-time 7f/1m winner in 2025. Yet to score this season but has made the frame on all his 6 starts, including when runner-up in Buckingham Palace at Royal Ascot (7f) in June and third of 8 in listed event at Newbury (7f, good to firm) last time. Can make his presence felt again.
Myal
Useful gelding who bagged 7f Thirsk conditions event in April. Posted a very good second in Haydock listed race (7f) in May but not quite at that level in 3 runs since, fourth of 8 in another listed event at Newbury (7f, good to firm) 15 days ago. This demands more.
Sondad
Progressive sort who landed a third big handicap of the season in Constantine at York (6f) in August. Posted another very good effort (from less-than-ideal draw) when fourth of 24 in handicap at the Curragh (6f, good to soft) 20 days ago. Big shout if proving as effective back at 7f.
Vafortino (IRE)
Veteran is on a long losing run but he arrives in fine form, collared near line when beaten just a head in 17-runner handicap at Leopardstown (7f, good to firm) 3 weeks ago. This C&D scorer is firmly in the picture.
Valvano (IRE)
Took a step forward after 5 months off (gelded and had breathing operation) when gaining a first win since his debut in 7f handicap at Southwell (form franked) in August, well on top at the finish. Remains lightly raced for his age and of interest again here.
Witness Stand
Lennox Stakes winner at Glorious Goodwood in 2025 and back to form when third in the latest renewal of that race in July. Not at his best in the Hungerford at Newbury and Park Stakes at Doncaster since but still commands respect if on his A-game.
Oolong Poobong (IRE)
Lightly raced in past 2 seasons but she looked better than ever when resuming winning ways in 6-runner handicap at Thirsk (7f, good to soft) 4 weeks ago, always holding on. This is much tougher but she's no forlorn hope.
