Timeform View

A trappy sprint in which preference is for BUCCABAY, who had been holding his form well prior to his latest Newmarket effort and Eve Johnson Houghton's 6-y-o can bounce back quickly to open his 2026 account. Tyger Bay caused a 33/1 shock at Yarmouth last month and with 5 C&D wins to his name, he's put forward as the main threat. Mesaafi may prove best of the rest.

Timeform Comments

Fifty Nifty (IRE)
Free-going sort who got off the mark for this yard over 6f on July course in August. Ran a cracker from 6 lb out of the handicap when second of 13 at Ascot (6f) last month and can have his subsequent Newmarket eighth upgraded (made effort on opposite flank to principals).
French Affair (IRE)
Came good for new yard in 26-runner handicap at Glorious Goodwood and improved further to follow up at Redcar 10 days later (both 6f, good to firm). Shaped well back in a big field when fifth of 24 in Bronze Cup at Ayr (6f, soft) last month and now first-time headgear is reached for.
Mesaafi
Resumed winning ways over 5f at Windsor in June and was unlucky not to finish even closer when beaten a half-length into fourth over the same C&D next time. Respectable efforts the last twice and worth a second look in a reapplied visor having dipped below his last winning mark.
Wyle Cop (USA)
Found some improvement when winning back-to-back at Lingfield in August. Found it much tougher in a higher grade when last of 5 back there last month so probably best to look elsewhere.
Tyger Bay
Returned to form from out of the blue to record a first victory on turf for over 2 years in 12-runner event at Yarmouth (6f, good) just under 3 weeks ago. Has 5 C&D wins on his record so shouldn't be underestimated from just 2 lb higher.
Buccabay (IRE)
A 2-time 6f scorer in 2025 (including over C&D). Yet to add to that this season but he's holding his form well, though did dip a little bit below his recent levels at Newmarket last time. Fancied to quickly bounce back now 2 lb below his last winning mark.
Space Party (IRE)
Son of Space Blues who has been placed on all 3 outings, though ran below the form he'd shown when second to a subsequent winner on turf 12 weeks earlier when third at Southwell in August. Could well progress now venturing into handicaps.
Shihoku (FR)
Ex-French winner. Failed to fire for James Owen this season and fared no better for Hayley Burton when eighth of 9 at Yarmouth (1m) in June. Off since and has moved yards again.
Charlie Mason
Hasn't kicked on since scoring at Lingfield in June this year but did take a step back in the right direction when third of 16 at Doncaster (6f, good to firm) just over 3 weeks ago. Considered from the same mark.
Merrimack
Gained reward for his consistency when making all at Newmarket under this 7-lb claimer in August. Still in good heart when length fourth of 6 under a much more patient ride than normal at Brighton later that month but not no good at Sandown since, going off a tad too hard. Visor discarded.
