TOPWARRIOR looks to have plenty in his favour following a near miss at Hamilton last time. He may gain compensation at the expense of Alpha Magic, who caught the eye in defeat at Pontefract last time, while Parisiac is likely to be knocking on the door again. Bronze Cup winner Eye Of Dubai isn't taken lightly back under these conditions, either.

Timeform Comments

Eye Of Dubai
Useful sprinter. Bounced back to land a gamble in the Bronze Cup here (soft) last month. Didn't travel with the same verve when beaten 4½ lengths on contrasting ground at Ripon, hampered/not given hard time after. Did win off this mark last season, though, and has conditions to suit here.
Topwarrior
Doubled his tally off this mark in a big-field Newbury handicap (6f, heavy) last October. Produced his best effort since when running on to finish close second in a higher grade at Hamilton (5f, soft) latest. Conditions again in his favour and every chance he goes one better off an unchanged mark.
Manila Scouse
Ground-versatile type. Gone off the boil since winning off this mark over C&D (good to firm) in July. At least has sights lowered following a no-show in the Bronze Cup here last time.
Arduis Invicta (IRE)
Capitalised on a tumbling mark in this grade at Doncaster last month. Encouraging that she was able to back that up when 1½-length third of 14 at Pontefract (6f) latest. Now 4 lb higher, though worth nohing her best effort last season came on soft ground here.
Dandy Magic (IRE)
Capitalised on reduced mark to open her account for the season at Hamilton (6f, good to firm) in August. Remained in good heart since, finishing 1¾-length fourth back on soft ground at Haydock last time. Eases back down in grade here, too.
Gentle George
Successful twice for Mick Appleby as a juvenile. Well below his fairly useful best for present yard, failing to revive following a gelding operation (also had cheekpieces applied) at Pontefract latest.
Parisiac (IRE)
Front runner/course winner who's been successful 4 times on soft ground previously. Has been shaping as though ready to add to that tally, forcing an unexposed one to pull out all the stops when ½-length second over C&D last time. Entitled to make another bold bid off the same mark.
Big Fun (IRE)
Musselburgh maiden winner last summer. Gradually easing down the weights following a stiff opening mark, his effort petering out (tried to keep tabs with the leader) when beaten 2½ lengths at Doncaster (5f) latest. Returning to 6f under these conditions could stretch him, though.
Annie Edson Taylor
Took her form to a new level when completing a Hamilton double (6f, soft) last month. Ran at least as well in defeat when ½-length second there on hat-trick bid, just anchored by her 5-lb penalty up against a thriving rival. More needed up in grade off her revised mark.
Alpha Magic
Relatively lightly-raced 4-y-o. Fallen some way in weights since fairly useful win at Hamilton last June. Back on song and unlucky not to capitalise (going well when denied clear run) at Pontefract (6f, good to soft) latest. Serious player if in same form off only 1 lb higher.
Stirrup Cup
Took advantage of a drop in grade at Carlisle in June. Back on track in a change of headgear when 3¼ lengths fourth of 8 over C&D (heavy, 28/1) 9 days ago, never getting to the more prominently ridden trio. Others again look better treated here.
