Timeform View

Plenty look potentially well handicapped on the best of their soft-ground form, including TORALOU, who makes plenty of each-way appeal in a wide-open contest. Keats House is feared most if headgear continues to have the same effect. Interesting last-time-out winners Evelyn's Phoenix and Rory's Gold are possible pace angles in the race, along with 3-time C&D winner Penelope's Sister.

Timeform Comments

Rory's Gold (IRE)
Runner-up under similar conditions over C&D in June. Enterprisingly ridden when making all to get off the mark at Newcastle (1¼m) latest. Soft ground should offset drop back in trip here. Weighted to make another bold bid, though will likely face competition for the lead.
Toralou (IRE)
Hit and miss since finishing runner-up in a higher grade at Ffos Las (1m, soft) in June. Tumbled further in weights ahead of this return to turf and has good-value claimer taking over for the first time. Interesting if on a going day.
Golden Caviar (IRE)
160,000 gns Wootton Bassett colt. Hasn't improved for the switch to handicaps, easy to back at Pontefract (1½m) latest. Now drops markedly in trip on ground softer than previously faced. Cannot be totally discounted if first-time blinkers have the desired effect.
Blufferonthebus (IRE)
Chased home Ravishing Beauty at Carlisle (1m) in June. Back on song returned to testing conditions when close second over 7f here last time, off the bridle before most but kept on. Likely strong pace can only benefit and still 2 lb below her latest winning mark.
Ravishing Beauty
Strong traveller who notched a third career 1m handicap win (all good to soft) at Carlisle in June. Now 2 lb below that mark following a couple of lesser efforts. Dangerous to dismiss in a race that could set up perfectly.
Gainsbourg
C&D who has stood little racing in recent seasons. Off for further 3 months since a headstrong display at Carlisle (1m, 125/1), when only beating one home.
Ey Up Its Jazz
C&D winner who relishes soft conditions. Latest success off 5 lb higher at Thirsk last September. Lurking on a handy mark if back on song following a rusty reappearance here last month.
Keats House (IRE)
Well treated on his form in 3-y-o handicaps last season. Ran his best race of this year when 2½-length second in first-time blinkers over C&D last time. May well go one better if headgear has the same effect here.
Penelope's Sister (IRE)
Three-time C&D winner. Back in form for switch to positive tactics when placing in back-to-back C&D handicaps (soft) last month. Didn't seem to benefit from a more conservative ride when fourth here subsequently. Remains on an attractive mark, for all the lead is likely to be contested this time.
Myrrh
Low-mileage 3-y-o who won a Hamilton maiden (1m, good to soft) last autumn. Clearly wasn't 100% physically when again failing to see out her race at Doncaster (1m, firm). On a much-reduced mark if breathing operation/first-time tongue strap does the trick.
Scheffler (IRE)
Didn't kick on from fair debut on all-weather for Richard Hughes. More impact than previous starts for current yard when 6¼-length third at Hamilton (1m, soft) latest, outpaced before keeping on again. Not sure to be in the same form this time, even if forecast strong pace materialises.
Evelyn's Phoenix (FR)
Capitalised on a career-low mark in good style from the front at Beverley (8.5f, good) last time. Contrasting ground unlikely to be an issue and still looks well treated on pick of his form. Unlikely to get it all his own way in front but remains a serious player.
Hear The Drums
Relatively lightly-raced 3-y-o who doubled his tally at Southwell in August. Remained in good heart on all-weather since and is 1-1 on soft ground to date (his smart dam having thrived in the mud).
Flying Moonlight (IRE)
Lightly-raced 3-y-o. Nearly landed a gamble in a C&D classified event on third start for present yard over C&D in August (travelled well). Stretched by the longer trip at Hamilton (1½m, soft) last time. Strongly-run 1m in these conditions could prove right up his street.
