Timeform View

MARLACOO was only beaten by a Dan Skelton improver at this fixture 12 months ago. He may go one better on reappearance this time around and belatedly reward his long-suffering supporters. Fasol is readily preferred as the main danger, with Beau Quali and Mostly Sunny others to consider.

Timeform Cash Out Hints

Marlacoo has traded at 50% or less of Betfair SP twice on its last 5 starts: Guardami Ancora traded at 25% or less of Betfair SP and 50% or less of Betfair SP on 2 of its last 5 starts.

Timeform Comments

Step Ahead (IRE)
Expensive bumper recruit who made it second time lucky over hurdles in a Cheltenham maiden on New Year's Day. Back to form when beaten 4 lengths in a Kempton novice (21f) in March. Opening mark demands more, though still lightly raced for his age.
Guchen (FR)
Progressed again when completing a double in smooth style (under this conditional) at Newbury in February (good to soft). Never looked like landing the hat-trick off this mark at Ayr (2½m, heavy) final start last season, for all he's better than he showed on that occasion.
Codetalker
Going the right way when making it 2 wins from 5 handicap starts at Southwell (2½m, good to soft) in March. Now 9 lb higher in a stronger event but returns with yard among the winners (successful with 4 of last 7 runners).
Fasol
Consistent sort. Completed a double at Musselburgh on New Year's Day prior to hitting the frame in stronger handicaps than this last season. Only 2 lb above his latest winning mark and rates a serious player if ready to roll for top yard.
Beau Quali (FR)
Capped a positive start for present yard with a belated first hurdle success over C&D in April (form figures of 221 here). Probably over the top at Uttoxeter the following month. Expected to give a good account reunited with good-value claimer.
Poet Laureate (FR)
Didn't fire after a much-improved handicap success at Wincanton (2m, soft) in December. Still early days for one from a capable yard and no surprise if he gets back on track for this step up in trip (placed in points earlier in his career).
Mostly Sunny (IRE)
Posted a good run of in-frame finishes in stronger handicaps last summer. Presumably wasn't 100% (jumped right) when turning in a rare poor run at Warwick when last seen 12 months ago. Interesting if market suggests he's ready to roll on a rare start in Class 4 company.
Kapitein Kool (IRE)
Fairly useful heavy-ground novice winner at Exeter (17f) in February. No impact in better handicaps at Newbury/Sandown end of last season. Does at least benefit from a 3 lb reprieve/drop in class on return.
Religous Cross
Successful sole start in points. Didn't kick on following impressive win on hurdling debut at Taunton (19f) in December, turning in a lacklustre effort on handicap bow at Plumpton in April. Reasonably treated for capable yard if back to his best.
Marlacoo (IRE)
Quirky sort who has been expensive to follow. Chased home Tranquil Sea on reappearance here 12 months ago. As good as ever when third to fairly useful pair at Haydock in March. Possibly had enough for the year when disappointing here subsequently. Worth another chance off 1 lb lower than last year.
Way Out (IRE)
Hasn't stood much racing in recent seasons. Showed some ability remained (still well below fairly useful best) at Cheltenham in spring 2025. Back under the care of previous handler and may find this on the sharp side following further 18 months away.
Guardami Ancora (FR)
Lightly-raced 5-y-o who was consistent rather than progressive in 2½m novice/maiden hurdles last season. Opening mark looks stiff enough on that evidence.
Calme Olympien (FR)
Fairly useful hurdler in France in 2024. Made a winning reappearance/stable debut in 3-runner maiden at Ffos Las this time last year. Back on track when 7¾-length third at Wincanton in April (split a pair of next-time-out winners), and he's clearly capable fresh.
Pepe Le Moko (FR)
Fairly useful chaser in his pomp. Unlucky not to capitalise on much-reduced mark in Ludlow chase in December. He's 5 lb lower in this sphere, this his first hurdle start since a second on handicap debut over C&D in 2023. Market likely to reveal whether this is a pipe-opener ahead of fences.
Top Coeur (FR)
Fair form in a pair of maiden hurdles for Gavin Patrick Cromwell in late-2025. Hasn't fired for current connections, latterly on return at Newton Abbot following a breathing operation. Beau Quali looks the stable's primary hope.
