Cases can be made for plenty, but ARCHERS BAY resumed his progress when going down to an exciting prospect in Godolphin ownership over C&D a fortnight ago. Just 1 lb higher now returned to handicap company, Marco Botti's colt is fancied to notch his fourth career success at the expense of Study of Words, who also bumped into one at Ascot when last seen in July and has since been gelded. Devil's Peak and Liberate can fight out third.

Timeform Comments

Archers Bay (IRE)
Won a handicap at Ascot over this trip in August and has shown an even better level of form in defeat on both subsequent outings, most recently when length second of 4 in listed race over C&D (good to firm) a fortnight ago. Mark just 1 lb higher and he's a really interesting runner.
Decade Of Time
Winner of a pair of 1m novices at the start of the summer and progressed again when head second of 9 to Turty Tree in handicap at Ascot (1½m, good to firm) just under 5 weeks ago. Nudged up 2 lb for that near miss but he's very likeable and is totally unexposed at the trip.
Spyce
Useful juvenile winner. Advanced his form when fourth in London Gold Cup at Newbury in May and having had a breathing operation after Royal Ascot, he's entitled to sharpen up for last month's sixth of 11 in handicap at Doncaster (1¼m, good). Upped in trip and handicapper generously drops him 3 lb.
Into The Light
Responded well to cheekpieces when winning at Glorious Goodwood but has finished tailed off from 8 lb higher on both subsequent outings. Needs a recent gelding operation to get him back on track.
Study Of Words (IRE)
Progressed with each run at 2, winning 1¼m course maiden on final start. Has made the track just 3 times this year but back to form with cheekpieces discarded when second of 9 in handicap at Ascot (1½m, good to firm) 11 weeks ago. Gelded since and is yard's first string on jockey bookings.
Turty Tree (IRE)
Made the most of his experience fitted with first-time headgear when off the mark in 6-runner maiden at Sandown in June. Seemingly benefited from a change of tactics when winning 9-runner handicap at Ascot (1½m, good to firm) recently and could have more to offer. Probably needs delivering late.
Devil's Peak
Not straightforward but made it 2-2 in handicaps not confined to his own age group in 9-runner event at Doncaster (1½m, good), typically carrying head bit high but leading entering final 1f. 5 lb rise looks fair, and this looks his ideal trip.
High Storm
Improved steadily in novice/maiden company, opening his account at Doncaster in March. No immediate impact in couple of 3-y-o handicaps in the spring but resumed his progress back from 3 months off when winning 7-runner handicap at Thirsk (1½m) recently. This is much deeper.
Liberate (FR)
Showed improved form to get off the mark on all-weather debut in 12-runner novice at Kempton (1½m) just over 7 weeks ago, likely suited by the step up in trip. That form has worked out well so this switch to a handicap could elicit further progress.
Lord D'or (GER)
Expensive to follow in maiden/novices but did take a step forward pitched into his first handicap (in first-time cheekpieces) when 1¼ lengths fourth of 9 to Turty Tree at Ascot (1½m) last month, finishing with running left after briefly denied a run. Yard second string on jockey bookings.
Kahin (IRE)
Made hard work of landing the odds in maiden at Hamilton in June and didn't improve as expected for 1¼m when second at York on handicap debut the following month. Gelded and had first-time cheekpieces on but again came up short at Ascot just under 5 weeks ago and now upped further in trip.
