A big-field handicap but the claims of BEAGLE BAY are there for all to see having beaten the subsequent John Smith's Cup winner Raammee at Sandown when last seen in June. His subsequent absence is no concern given the yard he represents and looks ahead of his mark. Power Fizz, course specialist Northern Express and Salam Dubawi head the opposition.

Timeform Comments

Power Fizz (IRE)
Progressed in the early stages of last year and defied a 10-month absence in good style at Newcastle in March. Excuses next 2 starts during the summer and right back on the up when successful over 7f here a month ago. Way he stuck to his task suggests 1m will be within range so needs considering.
Northern Express (IRE)
Likeable sort who enhanced his fine York record with a 7f win in July. Nothing wrong with next 2 starts before coming unstuck in the mud at Ayr 3 weeks ago (1m). Return to this venue can only help.
Ozat (FR)
Useful multiple winner in his native France. Has dropped in the weights and shaped well a couple of times for current connections, notably at Ascot on penultimate start but was disappointing at that venue last month (tongue tied for first time in Britain).
Beagle Bay (FR)
Made it 3 wins from 4 starts this year when seeing off subsequent John Smith's Cup winner Raammee at Sandown (1m, good) in June. Didn't look all out to do so and there's almost certainly more to come from this low-mileage 4-y-o. Will take some stopping up 5 lb.
Inspired (IRE)
4-y-o who is thriving on his racing, finding another chunk of improvement as he made it 3 wins since July in 19-runner C&D handicap last month, asserting close home. Escaped a penalty for that but 6-day turnaround may have caught him out at Doncaster.
Nikovo
Model of consistency since the turn of the year and improved when winning at Newmarket in July, exploiting his lower turf mark. Form of that success has been franked by the second since and wasn't far off that level when fifth on all-weather last month. Assessor may have him.
Mirsky
Proved at least as good as ever when landing the Thirsk Hunt Cup over 1m in May and produced his best effort since when 1½ lengths second of 9 to Spoken Truth at Ripon. Recent Leopardstown run wasn't one of his better efforts but he's clearly capable from this mark.
Henlein (AUS)
Smart runner-up in 1¼m Group 1 at Randwick in October 2024. No real impact in handicaps for present yard since returning from an absence (too high in the weights initially) but eased in class, he found only one too good in minor company at Ascot a week ago. Mark now looks more realistic.
Spoken Truth (IRE)
Shaped well on several occasions for new connections before deservedly coming good at Ripon (1m, soft) in a first-time tongue tie in August. Did all he could from 5 lb higher when third on heavy ground at Ayr so clearly arriving in good order.
Mr Swivell
Won 3 times around 1m in 2025. Looked as good as ever when runner-up over C&D in July and shaped as if still in good form after a slow break forced him into a change of tactics upped to 1¼m back here the following month. Too free to get home at Newbury and now back in distance.
Khafiz (IRE)
Dual 7f novice winner for Roger Varian but went the wrong way for Ed Bethell before making frame on first 2 starts for this yard. Could never land a blow when down the field at Ripon over 6f but way he shaped over 7f here last time suggests this test may prove beyond him.
Nizam (FR)
Useful 3-time winner in France but has just the one creditable effort to show from 6 outings for current yard. This is easier than the Cambridgeshire last time, at least.
Empire Of Light (IRE)
Ended 2025 with a win at Chester and picked up where he left off when shading tight finishes at Haydock (10.5f) and Thirsk (1m) in the spring. Found things harder in big-field events at this track but back in calmer waters, he found only one too strong at Nottingham a week ago.
Point Of Contact (IRE)
Showed benefit of reappearance run when making breakthrough in handicaps at this track (9f) in June, showing a good attitude. Has been expensive to follow since, albeit running pretty well in 3 of his 4 starts. Visor may just sharpen him up a touch.
Military Leader
Most progressive in 2026, successful at Southwell and Thirsk on return in May and continued to progress in defeat before notching third win in 15-runner event at Thirsk in August. Ran at least as well from 9 lb higher when second to Monoceros at Haydock (1m) before first below-par run latest.
Final Night
All 4 wins have come over 1m at Kempton. Has at least matched that form on turf in recent starts, continuing in good heart when 3 lengths fourth (suffered some interference) at Haydock last time. May prove vulnerable back in Class 3 company here, though.
Glenfinnan (IRE)
Pair of Beverley wins around 7.5f in 2026 and posted another sound effort back there 17 days ago. This looks a shade too competitive, however.
Salam Dubawi
Fair German 1m winner. Has improved for new yard this season, scoring at Hamilton (9f) in May and good fifth in John Smith's Cup here (demoted from third for hanging left). Has shaped better than the result all 3 starts since so in better heart than form figures suggest.
