Timeform View

A competitive handicap in which GASPACHO is fancied to step up on her belated return, William Haggas' filly very much bred to be at her best over this sort of trip. Similar comments apply to handicap newcomer Harper Violet, with Ed Bethell's Catterick winer Prince of Calypso also respected under a penalty.

Timeform Comments

Tierra Del Toro
Has held his form in valuable handicaps this year, faring best of those drawn high to once more make the frame in the Melrose over this C&D 48 days ago. Should give another good account but this mark seems to have the measure of him.
Glory Road (GER)
Showed improved form to make a winning handicap debut at Newcastle (12.5f) in July. Never got competitive in the Melrose over C&D next time but back on the up when winning 5-runner handicap (5/2) at Haydock (1¾m, soft) 14 days ago by neck from Itica, just holding on. 5 lb higher now.
Mythical Bay (IRE)
Overcame the rise in class when registering a third career success in 7-runner handicap at Newmarket (1¾m, firm) in July. Hasn't seemed to benefit from an increased emphasis on stamina in the Melrose or at Haydock on his last 2 starts, though, and cheekpieces now go on.
Harper Violet (IRE)
Promising third at Doncaster on her sole run at 2 yrs and has clearly benefited from patient handling this season, getting off the mark at the third attempt in 12-runner maiden at Carlisle (11f, good to soft) 30 days ago. Should be suited by the longer trip and can improve again now handicapping.
Baltic Fleet (IRE)
Back on track when third at Ascot on his second outing for this yard (sold from George Boughey for £170k) and shaped as if effective enough over this trip when eighth of 17 in the Melrose (good to soft) 48 days ago, albeit carrying his head a bit awkwardly. Cheekpieces replace visor.
Bintknight
Quickly doubled her tally on handicap bow at Lingfield (1¼m) in August. Not seen to ideal effect under a patient ride when a close fourth of 8 at Kempton (1½m) next time and quickly back on the up when winning 8-runner handicap at Newbury (1½m, good to firm, 11/2) 21 days ago. Up in trip now.
Prince Of Calypso (IRE)
Did well under the circumstances when off the mark at Wolverhampton (1½m) in August. Had a troubled passage when fifth at Beverley (heavy) after and resumed progress when winning 7-runner handicap at Catterick (1½m, good to firm) 9 days ago. Penalised but unlikely we've seen all he has to offer.
Itica
Showed much improved form upped to 11f when opening account in 6-runner seller at Goodwood (soft) in August and quickly to back form with some ease in the ground when a neck second of 5 to Glory Road in handicap at Haydock (1¾m, soft, 14/1) 14 days ago. 2 lb better off with that rival now.
Gaspacho
Off the mark at Pontefract last autumn and progressed again when landing 6-runner nursery at Newmarket in November. Short in the betting but shaped as if she'd come on for the run when fourth of 7 in handicap at Leicester (1¼m, good) 31 days ago on last month's return. Bred to stay this far.
Bridge Of Eagles (IRE)
Improved to make a winning handicap debut/return at Goodwood (1¼m) in May. Proved consistent rather than progressive subsequently, posting another solid effort when third of 8 in handicap at Haydock (1¾m, soft, 18/1) 34 days ago, albeit perhaps not seeing the race out as well as others.
