Timeform View

Plenty to consider but an opening mark of 94 may underestimate SHADOW ROAD, who gave a very smart prospect a decent race at Kempton last month. Nobody Knows, Water To Wine and Stoneacre Donny can make it a clean sweep for the 3-y-os.

Timeform Cash Out Hints

St Anton traded at more than 5 times Betfair SP and 2 times Betfair SP when winning on 2 of its last 5 starts: French Duke traded at 10% or less of Betfair SP and 50% or less of Betfair SP twice on 3 of its last 5 starts.

Timeform Comments

Grey Cuban
Smart performer who edged out Insanity over C&D a year ago. Shaped as if retaining all his ability in a couple of listed events last month but career best probably required to be defying top weight in a race as competitive as this.
Thunder Run (IRE)
Posted some good efforts in defeat here this season before producing a career best to win at Doncaster last month. Failed to give his running under a penalty in the Cambridgeshire 2 weeks ago on firm ground.
Paddy The Squire
Had a good 2025, winning 3 times, and has improved again in defeat this season, placed in the Copper Horse at Royal Ascot and Old Newton Cup at Newmarket before just failing in this headgear at Newbury 3 weeks ago.
Yabher
Took form to another level when impressive 6-length winner at Goodwood on return and confirmed that form at the third attempt when third in a first-time tongue strap at Hamilton, clear of rest. Should remain competitive.
French Duke (IRE)
Mixed record for this stable but produced a career best when just failing in a 16-runner Heritage Handicap here (1½m, good to soft) at the Ebor meeting. Excuses at Newbury since and a soundly-run 1¼m should help him settle if anything.
Water To Wine (FR)
Looked very exciting when winning Newbury maiden and Kempton novice in the spring. Not seen since failing to meet expectations in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot. Possibly not straightforward (has been gelded/headgear now applied) but he's a fascinating runner on handicap bow.
Insanity
Career-best efforts when second back-to-back here last season off similar marks. Lightly raced this time around but this has likely been the target, though he's up against the 3-y-os on this occasion.
Old Harrovian
Bolted up at Newcastle in January 2025 and should've followed up in the Easter Classic there 3 months later. Made an encouraging return from 17 months off at Newbury but this is asking a lot just 3 weeks on.
Lord Melbourne (IRE)
November Handicap winner on heavy in 2024 and returned from a 10-month absence to score at Epsom last autumn, but he's been disappointing this campaign.
Say What You See (IRE)
Already successful at Pontefract/C&D this season. Continued in tremendous heart when placed next 3 starts, the step up in trip just stretching him in the Mallard at Doncaster last time.
St Anton (IRE)
Three 1m handicap wins this year, including here and a strong event on the July Course. Acquitted himself very well when sixth of 27 in the Cambridgeshire 2 weeks ago and this trip worth exploring.
My Love Is King
Debut winner on all-weather before chasing home Maltese Cross in a Newbury novice on return. Beaten only by the smart Ancient Egypt in listed race at Newmarket next time but not quite at that level fitted with headgear since, though was beaten just over a length on his handicap bow at Sandown.
Shadow Road (IRE)
Left debut well behind when comfortably winning a Kempton novice, proving well suited by the much longer trip. Beaten only by a very smart prospect there since and he's bred to be suited by turf (dam won the Melrose on soft here). Needs considering off what looks an attractive opening mark.
Have Secret (IRE)
Better than ever when winning at Pontefract in the spring and put a quiet spell behind him with a good fourth in a big-field over C&D last month. Not disgraced back on soft ground at Ayr 11 days later.
Castle Stuart (IRE)
Merit/mark looks established but he has a very solid record here so no surprise if he made his presence felt.
Nobody Knows (IRE)
Highly-regarded colt who won a very strong novice at Ayr on sole 2-y-o start. Defied a penalty in ready fashion at Wolverhampton in March before showing useful form when close third at Sandown on handicap bow following month. Scopey sort who almost certainly has more to offer stepping up in trip.
Wyld Bill
Good strike rate on all-weather but well held on both his starts on turf, albeit on heavy. Tough ask starting out for another new yard.
Ancestor
All the wiser for debut when winning at Yarmouth in July. That form has worked out really well but he made a meal of landing the odds under a penalty in 3-runner event at Haydock. Probably did too much too soon upped in trip on handicap bow at Ascot since.
Wahdan (IRE)
One-time useful winner in France. Finally ended his losing run at Pontefract 16 days ago but he's 4 lb higher in a much stronger race.
Stoneacre Donny
Shaped well several times this season before scoring in impressive fashion over C&D last month. Good fifth under a penalty at Doncaster just 4 days later and he remains of interest.
