Timeform View

BE THE STANDARD looks far from exposed on his first try over 1¼m and he could be the answer in a very tricky handicap. Double Parked has some solid course form and is a danger if putting his best foot forward, while a strong pace could bring Per Contra, Ashnak and Almekarem into the mix.

Timeform Comments

Empire Of Light (IRE)
Ended 2025 with a win at Chester. Picked up where he left off when shading tight finishes at Haydock (10.5f)/Thirsk (1m) in the spring. Struggled in big-field events at this track but only found a progressive 3-y-o too good in this grade at Nottingham (1m) 9 days ago.
Ashnak (FR)
Useful sort whose sole win came in France (heavy). Finished fourth in a good-quality C&D handicap back in May. Back in similar form when filling the same position at Ayr (13f, soft) latest, beaten 4½ lengths having not been ideally placed. Should go well dropped in grade.
Dark Moon Rising (IRE)
Readily ended a long losing sequence in Class 4 C&D handicap in July. Subsequently paid the price for big move into contention when fine sixth at the Ebor meeting here. Hasn't fired either start since, perhaps not helped by the ground at Ayr (1¼m, soft) latest. Respected back down in grade.
Almekarem (IRE)
Headstrong sort. Back on the up when landing a 1¼m Doncaster handicap (runner-up won next time), having been well suited by a soundly-run race. Subsequently down the field in a much better race at Newbury 8 days on. Another who could do better with sights lowered here.
Rainbow Nebula (FR)
Hit-and-miss performer. Resumed progress when winning off this mark at Redcar (1m) in May. Went in snatches when well held in a higher grade at Ayr (1m, heavy) last time. Now tackles 1¼m for the first time in lesser company (stays this far).
Pol Roger (IRE)
Arrives in the form of his life. Made it 2 wins from last 3 starts (narrow second at Haydock in between) when digging deep to score in similar company at Redcar (1¼m) last time. Can remain competitive, for all this is a more highly contested event.
Per Contra (IRE)
Hold-up type who capitalised on a career-low mark in this grade at Redcar (1¼m) last month. Again ran well when smooth-travelling third at Pontefract last time, running on under hands-and-heels ride having been short of room home turn. Should be suited by the run of the race back down in grade.
Mohaaraj
Lightly-raced 3-y-o. Off the mark in 1m maiden at Kempton in February prior to following up on handicap debut at Haydock (1m) in May. Progressed seemingly stalled on subsequent couple of starts, beaten 5¼ lengths on first try over this trip at Newbury latest. This is more competitive, too.
Applesandpears
First-time cheekpieces seemingly a catalyst for her return to winning ways in Class 2 fillies handicap at Ascot last month. Ran as well as could be expected (blew start/didn't handle the track) when beaten 5¼ lengths in Newmarket listed race. Longer trip a question mark on return to a handicap.
Loz Vegas (IRE)
Won a small-field Sandown maiden (1m) last summer. Back to his best (foretold by the market) with sights lowered at Newbury last time, rallying to finish ½-length second of 8 (1¼m, good to firm). This is a deeper race for the grade, though.
Pearl Eye
Overcame a pace bias to justify support in a fairly useful handicap at Ayr (13f, soft) last time. Back off a mark in the 80s following that third success of the season, which may prevent a follow up.
Mehmas Champion (IRE)
Belied 80/1 odds to get off the mark at Haydock (1¼m, good to soft) on penultimate start, Pearl Eye/Pol Roger confirming that to be no fluke by winning subsequently. Shaped as if still in form when beaten 6 lengths in more testing conditions at Ayr since. Danny Tudhope looks elsewhere this time.
Double Parked (IRE)
Made amends for his Redcar near miss with a career-best success over C&D in June. Only beaten 5 lengths in stronger event here last month prior to failing to meet expectations (sweating beforehand) at Redcar (1m) 7 days ago. Could prove himself well treated if his mind is on the job here.
Lean D'aislingean (IRE)
€85,000 Ghaiyyath colt. Steadily progressed in maidens, finishing ½-length second at Ffos Las (1m) on qualifying run. Sent off at 66/1 when finding the longer trip beyond him (travelled well for a long way but ultimately well held) on handicap bow at Glorious Goodwood. Mark still on the stiff side.
Be The Standard (FR)
Unexposed 3-y-o who got off the mark in a solid 1m Thirsk maiden last summer. Back on the up making just his third handicap start at Newmarket last time, rallying to finish 1¾-length second (9f, good to firm). A big run looks in the offing, with this step up in trip expected to suit.
Kissmehoneyhoney
Leicester maiden winner (1¼m) on sole start at 3 yrs. Runner-up in a Hamilton novice second time up this season. Probably haven't seen the best of her either handicap, beaten 4¼ lengths having helped force a strong pace at Goodwood (1¾m) latest. Hard to rule out a lightly-raced one from this yard.
Mano Chicago (IRE)
Fairly useful maiden in Ireland for Johnny Murtagh. Hasn't gone on from a promising debut for new connections (sold 48,000 gns), more to it than doing too much early on heavy ground at Ayr last time.
Advance Twentyfive (FR)
Went with little fluency when breaking his duck at Chester (7.5f) in first-time visor over the summer. Ran a couple of stinkers subsequently, latterly over 1m here on final start for Richard & Peter Fahey. Plenty to prove back up in trip for new connections.
Optician
Gained a first turf victory at Doncaster (1½m) in June. Placed on his last 3 turf handicap starts, finishing 1-length second in a soundly-run handicap at Redcar (1¼m) last time. Should give another good account granted a similar setup here.
Project Geofin
Recorded back-to-back wins last summer. Standout effort of 4 starts this season when third in Class 5 event at Doncaster (had won race the year previous) in August. Ground possibly a factor in subsequent below-par effort at Beverley (1¼m, heavy) and now faces a step back up in grade.
