Losing run is mounting up but from his falling mark he shaped better than the result at Newmarket in July. Wasn't in the same form in the Ebor, though made the frame for just the second time this year at Newbury 3 weeks ago. Task is now to build on latest effort.
Master Builder
Capitalised on a falling mark when landing 17-runner handicap at this course (1½m) on return in May. Failed to give his running when well held here at the Ebor meeting, but he's previously run well fresh so he could bounce back in this grade.
Spartan Army (IRE)
Showed improved form on the Flat in 2024, completing an all-weather hat-trick with success at Lingfield (2m) in March. Wasn't discredited when seventh of 20 in the Northumberland Plate, but has been absent over 2 years since.
All In You (FR)
Winner over hurdles on second start for current yard in January and hasn't been seen to best effect on the Flat the last twice, needing a stronger gallop when fourth of 8 in the Mallard Handicap at Doncaster (14.5f). Could still have more to offer on the level.
Bulletin (IRE)
Has been proving reliable without winning this season, making the frame for the seventh time in 8 starts when runner-up in 9-runner contest at Newbury 3 weeks ago. Can give his running once more back down in grade.
Divine Knight (IRE)
Had been in good heart in handicaps for current yard this season before getting back to winning ways at Yarmouth 23 days ago, though was seen to good effect from the front. In good hands but faces a tougher ask as he moves back up in grade.
Wonder
Has proved at least as good as ever on all-weather this year, winning at Southwell (1½m) in February and placed on his next 3 outings. After 4 months off, ran well when 1¾ lengths fifth of 12 at Southwell in August, though now needs to transfer that form to turf.
Alfred Wincham (IRE)
Won a Down Royal bumper on sole outing for Anthony McCann. Made a successful Flat/stable debut in maiden at Pontefract (1½m) in June and has run at least as well both starts since, runner-up on handicap bow at Doncaster (good) last month. Could do better still up in trip on softer ground.
Minstrel Knight
Successful over C&D at this meeting back in 2024. Without a win on the Flat since but did record back-to-back victories over hurdles at the turn of the year. However, has finished down the field on the level last 2 starts, returning from 4 months off at Ayr 23 days ago.
Spirit Of Acklam
Off the mark for the campaign at Hamilton (13f) in July and has continued in good heart since, overcoming the run of the race to finish second in 11-runner contest at Ayr 23 days ago. Merits consideration as he goes up in trip.
Hermetic
Successful twice up to 2m in France last year and encouragement when making the frame on 3 of first 4 starts for present stable. However, was tailed off on the other occasion and it was a similar story at Haydock 5 weeks ago.
Northwest Passage
Goes well on testing ground, getting off the mark at Salisbury (1¼m, soft) last autumn. Making third start for this stable, ran up to best when second of 18 on good ground here in June and creditable third at Ayr (13f, soft) 23 days ago. Any rain would be in his favour.
High Point (IRE)
Successful at Yarmouth (11.5f) in June on final outing for Ross Burdon. However, failed to beat a rival on first 3 starts for this yard, before having the run of the race when sixth of 11 at Ayr (13f) 23 days ago. Others more persuasive.
Haveyoumissedme
Yet to get his head in front this year but has made the frame on 5 occasions, including when runner-up in the Northumberland Vase in June. Made his challenge wider than ideal when down the field at Chester (12.5f) last time, so he could fare better from his last winning mark.
Cascade Hall (IRE)
Regular front runner whose 3 wins have all been by wide margins this year, the latest by twenty-one lengths at Chester (2m) last month. Collared close home at Ayr (13f) a week later and he's respected in his current form, even as he goes up in class.
