Timeform View

DR T J ECKLEBURG has often run well here and returns to hurdles off a much-reduced mark after an unsuccessful 2025/26, so will take beating if retaining most of his ability. Haas Boy enjoyed a highly productive campaign last season and rates the main danger, while Welsh Charger is well treated on old form and is respected, along with veteran Faivoir, who would be even more interesting if the market spoke in his favour.

Timeform Comments

Norn Iron (IRE)
Fairly useful hurdler who improved over fences last term, winning 2 Sandown handicaps before running a cracker behind Funiculi Funicula in a 22-runner listed handicap at the Punchestown Festival. Back over hurdles now, but this is likely a stepping stone towards next month’s Paddy Power Gold Cup.
Glengouly (FR)
Useful but unreliable chaser who sprang a 33/1 surprise in last season’s December Gold Cup at Cheltenham and later bounced back from 4 consecutive pulled-up efforts to win by 11 lengths at Uttoxeter in May. Not seen since and which version of him turns up now back over hurdles is anyone’s guess.
Ooh Betty (IRE)
Likeable type who won a Grade 2 mares’ event at Ascot last season before running respectably in both the County Hurdle and the Scottish Champion Hurdle on her last 2 starts. Has gone well fresh before but looks to be in the handicapper's grip at present.
Stream Of Stars
Admirable veteran who proved at least as good as ever last season, winning at Bangor and finishing runner-up in stronger events at Plumpton and Aintree. Goes well fresh and must be respected with yard in such good form.
Faivoir (FR)
Winless since landing the County Hurdle in 2023 but has run well in several top-end handicaps since, including when placed in last season’s Greatwood Hurdle. Usually needs a run or 2 to hit top gear but is now on a career-low mark and any market support would be notable.
No Ordinary Joe (IRE)
Ended a long losing run at Sandown in April but failed to back that up on next 2 starts. Arrives fit after a few spins on the Flat for current yard and remains well treated on old hurdles form, but has long since been a difficult one to catch right and others make more appeal.
Welsh Charger (IRE)
Proved more miss than hit last season but was fourth in the Greatwood Hurdle off a 6 lb higher mark. That came after a break, and he won first time up the season before, so the absence is no concern and he makes the shortlist.
Haas Boy (FR)
Enjoyed a resurgent campaign for Chester Williams last season, winning 3 times over fences and once over hurdles, as well as twice finishing runner-up in the latter sphere. The yard is only just returning from a 4-month spell without a runner, but this one remains of interest.
Dr T J Eckleburg (IRE)
Fairly useful sort who has raced almost exclusively over fences since mid-2023 but struggled to recapture his best last season. Now back over hurdles from a career-low mark, with the yard among the winners and a previous course chase win to his name, he must go close.
Gower Prince
Has made a positive start for current yard over fences having not looked 100% last year. Enhanced his record fresh with a handicap chase success at Market Rasen prior to posting solid efforts in defeat in a similar event at Stratford and a handicap hurdle at Plumpton. Should again give his running.
