STEP BY STEP showed enough on his Ballinrobe debut 30 days ago to suggest he's capable of winning this, having been awkward early and lost ground at the last before keeping on well in the final stages. Open to improvement second time up, he's preferred to Chairmanforlife, who left his disappointing debut behind when runner-up in conditions company at Listowel last month and can be competitive back in maiden grade.

Timeform Comments

Another Day Done (IRE)
A fair 1m winner on the Flat for Joseph Patrick O'Brien but sold for only 6,500 gns after looking less than straightforward at Down Royal on most recent outing in that sphere and little encouragement to be gleaned from either of his hurdle starts to date.
Atomic City (IRE)
Dam 2m hurdle winner, also 9.5f-1½m winner on Flat. Showed fairly useful form when winning a 10.5f Cork maiden on heavy ground in the spring. Below that form in a handicap at Royal Ascot and subsequently gelded. One of the more likely hurdling debutants.
Boston Benjamin (IRE)
Won 7f handicap at Dundalk in February but showed no aptitude for hurdling on first attempt in July.
Chairmanforlife (FR)
Left hurdling debut form when 8½ lengths second of 11 to Danny Power in juvenile event at Listowel last month. Sets the standard on that effort.
Did Tell (IRE)
Third foal. Well beaten last of 11 in maiden hurdle on debut.
Green Soul (IRE)
Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler Game Point (winner around 2m, by Blue Point). Fairly useful 7f winner on Flat as a 2-y-o. Market is likely to prove informative.
Starship Trooper (IRE)
Half-brother to 2m-2¼m hurdle winner in Italy Spiritofhayton (by Big Bad Bob). Fair maiden on the Flat for Andrew Balding. Makes hurdling debut on first start for new connections.
Step By Step (IRE)
Gleneagles gelding. Showed plenty to work on when 1¾ lengths third of 13 to Bell Ex Too in juvenile hurdle at Ballinrobe. Open to improvement and one to consider.
The Wee Man (IRE)
Dam was a fairly useful stayer on the Flat and a half-sister to winning hurdler up to 2¼m Augustive (by Machiavellian) but showed nothing in a quartet of runs on the Flat.
Wills History (IRE)
Rich History gelding. Some encouragement when 18 lengths eighth of 13 to Bell Ex Too in juvenile hurdle at Ballinrobe on debut.
Divine Believer (IRE)
Fair maiden on the Flat (bred to stay further than 1m but hasn't done so yet). Has shown aptitude for hurdling when mid-field in 2 juvenile events at Ballinrobe but is probably one for handicaps after another run.
