Timeform View

HELVIC DREAM was better than ever when winning a listed handicap hurdle at Listowel recently and having slipped to a career-low mark in this sphere, Noel Meade's former Group 1 winner gets the verdict to follow up back on the level. Joseph O'Brien seemingly has a strong hand with four runners, and his Comfort Zone may emerge as the main threat, while Factual Fact, Not Just Any Eagle and Galileo Dame are just a handful of others to consider, too.

Timeform Comments

Comfort Zone (IRE)
Finished well when 3 lengths third in this 12 months ago. Returned to form with a bang to win for the first time in the best part of 2 years at Galway (16.8f) in late-July and has looked back in form without threatening on both outings last month. Considered in reapplied blinkers.
Counting Coup (IRE)
Made it 2-3 on Flat in 6-runner minor event at Galway (1¾m, soft) in late-July. Backed that up when eleventh of 21 on handicap debut at Leopardstown (13f, good to firm) last month and could have more to offer now heading up in trip.
Galileo Dame (IRE)
Sole Flat success came in a Leopardstown maiden in 2024. Has acquitted herself with plenty of credit in ultra-competitive staying handicaps this season, running as well as she ever has when third of 30 at the Curragh (17f, heavy) a fortnight ago. 1 of 4 for this yard.
Helvic Dream (IRE)
Better than ever over hurdles when winning 15-runner listed handicap at Listowel (2m, good to soft) just over a fortnight ago and this former Group 1 winner has slipped to a career-low mark in this sphere. Could be worth chancing.
Abbotsford
Gelded and readily justified strong support in 1½m soft-ground maiden at Galway in late-July. Clearly not 100% upped to listed level at Leopardstown next time but back on song when second of 3 in minor event at Bellewstown (12.4f, soft) recently. Upped in trip for this handicap debut.
Factual Fact (FR)
Opened his Flat account at Killarney in May. Wasted no time getting back on track returned to 1¾m when third of 10 in handicap there just over 7 weeks ago and plenty to like back at this sort of trip.
Light Up The Dark
Low-mileage 5-y-o who returned with a cosy win at Gowran. Back on the up when runner-up at Killarney (14.5f) in August and shaped better than the distance beaten suggested at the Curragh (17f, heavy) a fortnight ago, needing emphasis less on stamina. Likely outsider of yard's quartet.
Madbadanddangerous (IRE)
Recorded his second success of the year at Galway in late-July and resumed progress after looking as if it had stalled when fourth of 30 at the Curragh (17f, heavy) a fortnight ago. Unexposed at the trip and this 3-y-o could have more to offer.
Shoda (IRE)
Recorded her breakthrough success over hurdles in a mares' maiden at Downpatrick in August and ran her best race tackling a deeper handicap under a 7-lb claimer when fifth of 30 at the Curragh (17f, heavy) a fortnight ago. Top apprentice booked and she's 1 of 4 for this yard.
Michonne
Dual Flat winner in France for Francis-Henri Graffard. Didn't offer much on return/first Flat start for present yard last month and held back by her jumping when running a long way below expectations back over hurdles at Gowran (2m, good to soft) recently. Looks an easy swerve.
Not Just Any Eagle (IRE)
Ended long losing run in 11-runner event at Clonmel (17f, good) last month, seeing the trip out with more conviction than he had at Navan, having enjoyed the run of things. This tough but he'd be folly to ignore from 8 lb higher.
Whimsy
Building an excellent record in cheekpieces and showed the benefit of a recent run to resume winning ways in 12-runner event at the Curragh (1½m, soft) last week. Back up markedly in trip and another with a chance carrying a 7-lb penalty.
Jabbar (IRE)
More like it back jumping recently with a couple of runner-up efforts. Yet to fire on the level this season so easy enough to look elsewhere despite a sliding mark.
Glowing Account (FR)
Displayed fairly useful form in bumpers in 2023, winning at Listowel on debut. Tailed off on return after a lengthy absence but more like it the last twice, fourth of 11 in maiden at same track (1½m) most recently. Respected for top yard returned to this trip on handicap bow.
Putapoundinthejar (IRE)
Prolific over jumps in recent starts, making it 3 wins from his last 4 starts in a 4-runner beginners' chase at Sligo (2¼m, good) 11 days ago. Back on the level and has to be respected. 1 of 2 for the yard.
Thisistheway (IRE)
Backed up all of the improvement she found at Galway whilst again leaving the impression she could easily have gone one better under different circumstances when 1¼ lengths second of 15 to Helvic Dream at Listowel (2m) recently, nearest finish. Possible improver on Flat handicap bow.
Sir Jeremy (IRE)
Responded well to headgear when recording a second win for this yard at Galway in August, doing well to get up having been ridden patiently upped in trip. Creditable efforts on both subsequent starts, doing especially well under the circumstances at Listowel most recently. Upped in trip.
Eben Zaabeel
Shaped much better than result when third of 8 at Limerick in June (caught eye of stewards and banned for 60 days). Returned to win maiden hurdle at Downpatrick in August and backed that up when third at Fontwell (2¼m) earlier in the month. Folly to discount back on the level.
