Timeform View

IL EST FRANCAIS looked one with serious problems last season but this former high-class chaser starts off the new campaign on a potentially lenient mark on his first run for the Skeltons. The one-time smart Crebilly has already started his revival so is second choice, with Saint Segal also respected back at a realistic level.

Timeform Comments

Il Est Francais (FR)
Shaped like a horse with major problems when pulled up all 3 starts for Tom George last season. However, this bold-jumping front runner is potentially thrown-in on his best form (runner-up in the King George at Kempton in 2024) so could be worth chancing on his first run for Dan Skelton.
Saint Segal (FR)
Out of his depth in Grade 1s at the Cheltenham/Aintree Festivals in the spring but had an excellent season otherwise, winning twice (including at Chepstow on his return) and runner-up 3 times, latest in the Game Spirit at Newbury. Must be respected.
Down Memory Lane (IRE)
Smart chaser at his best for Gordon Elliott, as shown when winning at Navan in December. However, well held next 3 starts and passed over by Cobden on return/first start for this yard.
Riskintheground (IRE)
Landed Silver Trophy at Haydock in April and added to that at Perth (3m) this summer. Close third in the Summer Cup at Uttoxeter since but interesting that Harry Skelton prefers Il Est Francais.
Matterhorn (FR)
Smart at best for Paul Nicholls but career best probably required if he's to defy his current mark on return/first start for this yard, and Harry Skelton prefers Il Est Francais.
Somespring Special (IRE)
Returned to form when winning at Newton Abbot in May and proved better than ever when following up at Bangor 2 weeks later. Hat-trick bid at Perth following month probably best ignored and she has since had a breathing operation.
Crebilly (IRE)
Finally capitalised on a falling mark at Market Rasen (hurdles) in May. Sharper for his previous outing when ending his losing run over fences at Worcester 5 weeks ago and he remains well treated on old form (one-time smart).
Torneo (FR)
Held his form well last season and gained reward when winning 3-runner event at Chepstow on final start, albeit in a race that fell apart in front of him. 4 lb higher in much stronger race now.
Southoftheborder (IRE)
Hasn't always found much but managed to win 2 of his last 3 starts on Flat tracks in the spring. Stiff task from out of the handicap on return, however.
