Timeform View

NICATOR showed improved form despite coming from a disadvantageous position the way the race developed when fourth over C&D 2 weeks ago. With fewer miles on the clock than the majority here, he could be worth chancing to confirm the promise of that effort here. Wonder for the in-form James Fanshawe yard and Tryfan head up the dangers, with the consistent Londoner another holding solid each-way claims.

Assail traded at 10% or less of Betfair SP and 50% or less of Betfair SP on 2 of its last 5 starts: Nicator has traded at 50% or less of Betfair SP twice on its last 5 starts.

Timeform Comments

Londoner (IRE)
Sole success this year came at Lingfield in April and has largely acquitted himself well in defeat since, finishing runner up at Wolverhampton prior to another creditable fourth at Southwell (1m) 3 weeks ago. Can go well again from same mark under Billy Loughnane.
Charmaine
Consistent sort (course winner) who was a dual winner last year and got off the mark for 2026 when taking 7-runner handicap at Chester (1½m) in August. Possibly not suited by the demands of Epsom when last of 6 in handicap there 5 weeks ago and type to bounce back.
War Hawk (IRE)
Three-time winner last season. In the frame a couple of times in the UAE over the winter but strictly operating below best in pair of starts since returning to Britain, a slow start not helping matters when sixth at Goodwood 45 days ago. Needs to bounce back.
Tryfan
Addition of first-time cheekpieces saw him notch a fourth career victory at Ascot in July. Dispelled a lesser effort back in a soundly-run race when third at Southwell (1½m) 3 weeks ago and he's not discounted from same mark for stable amongst the winners.
Lyric (IRE)
Quickly reached a useful level for John & Thady Gosden in 2024 but offered little only start on Flat last year and offered little either start over hurdles this year for Johnjo & A. J. O'Neill. Now starts out for another new yard with plenty to prove.
Wonder
Has proved at least as good as ever on all-weather this year, winning at Southwell (1½m) in February. Hard to knock his consistency in defeat since, off 4 months prior to finishing a solid fifth over same C&D in August. Entitled to sharpen up for that and respected for in-form yard.
Assail (IRE)
Course winner who hasn't tasted success since 2024 but confirmed himself as good as ever this summer, placed in handicaps over C&D/Sandown. Raced keenly when sixth returned to 1½m at Southwell 3 weeks ago. Type to bounce back, though.
Marhaba The Champ
Useful at best for Kevin Ryan but he's essentially a tricky customer in both codes nowadays and is impossible to recommend returned to the Flat after a layoff following another breathing operation.
Metal Merchant (IRE)
Stopped the slide when fourth of 12 at Newcastle (1m) in July for his new yard but hasn't built on that since, albeit shade better than result when seventh of 13 over 7f here 3 weeks ago. Takes a marked step back up in trip now.
Carnival Day (IRE)
Tends to save his best for Epsom in recent seasons, narrowly resuming winning ways over 1¼m there 2 starts back and matching that form on back of a 3 lb rise when second over same C&D 17 days ago.
Youthful King
Successful from an 8 lb higher mark over further at Sandown last summer but hasn't been shaping like a winner in waiting in recent starts, left behind over 2f out when fourth of 5 in handicap at Newmarket (1¾m) in June. Passed over returning from a break.
Nicator (FR)
Fairly useful sort who showed improved form despite a disadvantageous position when keeping on for fourth over C&D 2 weeks ago, making good headway before meeting some trouble 1f out. One to note boasting a less exposed profile than most.
Charlie's Choice
Three all-weather wins since the turn of the year and in good form on turf when last seen, fourth of 6 in handicap at Yarmouth (1¼m) in June. However, possible this first start for 4 months will bring him forward ahead of another all-weather campaign.
