Timeform View

QUEBECOIS was placed in the Ultima at Cheltenham last season and the smart level of form he showed there should be enough to win this. Recent Uttoxeter winner Country Mile is the main form danger, though he may not be suited by this longer trip, whilst prolific point winner El Capitaine is open to progress under Rules.

Timeform Comments

El Capitaine (IRE)
Had been prolific in points (won 7 times) prior to his return last season so no surprise he immediately bettered his hurdles form when forging clear to score on chase debut at Newbury (2¾m) in March. Scored on seasonal bow last autumn and he's a likely improver this season back from 7 months off.
Country Mile (IRE)
Dual novice hurdle winner who made a promising start over fences in 2 starts last autumn and didn't need to advance that form to win a 3-runner minor event chase (4/11) at Uttoxeter (2m, good) 13 days ago. Step up in trip isn't certain to suit, though.
Leading Choice (IRE)
Fair winning hurdler who was well beaten in the face of stiff tasks both starts over fences last season. Looks set for a similar struggle after 7 months off here.
Quebecois (FR)
Took well to chasing last year despite failing to get his head in front, finishing very good third of 22 in the Ultima at Cheltenham (25f, good to soft) last month. Perhaps amiss when pulled up in the Scottish National and sets a good standard on the balance of his form.
