Timeform View

IVOR BEAR failed to win a bumper last season but showed plenty on all 3 outings and there's a strong feeling that jumping could well be the making of him given his physique. He's narrowly preferred to Hold The Throw, who came from a less-than-ideal position to land a steadily-run bumper at Perth in May. Sir Edward Lear showed only a little promise on his hurdling debut at Huntingdon last November but should be capable of better.

Timeform Cash Out Hints

Hold The Throw traded at a high of 200.00 and Betfair SP of 4.10 when winning last time, a race in which it raced behind.

Timeform Comments

Hold The Throw (IRE)
€40,000 3-y-o, Order of St George gelding. Closely related to smart hurdler Slade Steel. Finished runner-up on his sole start in Irish points and impressed in going one better in a Perth bumper in the spring. Hood added for hurdling debut and has leading claims.
Sir Edward Lear
Fairly useful performer on the Flat (stays 1½m) who showed only a bit on his hurdling debut at Huntingdon last November but is entitled to do better.
Whin Cover
Showed more than in a pair of Uttoxeter bumpers for Paul Collins after 14 months off when fifth at Worcester in August, despite going in snatches. Again offered something to work on when third of 6 on Hexham hurdling debut subsequently but longer trips are likely to suit him better in due course.
Gold Hill
Showed a bit when fourth in a 1m Brighton maiden in October 2024 for James Tate but offered little on his return for a new yard at Kempton in August. Is a brother to a winning hurdler but others more appealing all the same.
Ivor Bear (IRE)
Soldier of Fortune gelding who shaped with plenty of encouragement when fourth of 16 in a listed bumper at Cheltenham on New Year's Day. Lost little in defeat when runner-up on both outings since and has the physique to do well over hurdles.
Mio Amico
Fair dual winner on the Flat (stays 2m) whose dam is a half-sister to useful hurdler Misterton, so shouldn't be taken lightly on this switch to hurdling.
Shabu Shabu (IRE)
Modest Flat winner (stays 1½m). Provided some encouragement for his new yard (previously with James Ferguson, sold 4,000 gns) when fourth at Windsor last month ahead of this switch to hurdling.
Troy Story
Fair on the Flat for Alan King/Eve Johnson Houghton. Showed a bit more than on hurdling debut in a first-time hood and tongue strap when fifth of 8 at Uttoxeter 13 days ago but is one for handicaps after another run.
