Timeform View

UHAVEMEINSTITCHES gets the nod in another ultra-competitive renewal of this race. A Wave of The Sea could well make it a 1-2 for JP McManus, with very useful novice chaser Bossofthebrownies also feared. Weveallbeencaught, Iceberg Theory and Sportinthepark are other notable contenders.

Timeform Comments

Stumptown (IRE)
Very likeable sort. Added another notable feather to his cap when taking the Velka Pardubicka last October. Wasn't disgraced when fifth in his bid to make it back-to-back Cheltenham Festival wins in the Cross Country latest. Capable fresh and on a reasonable mark back over conventional fences.
French Dynamite (FR)
Led home a 1-2 for the Eric McNamara yard in the 2025 renewal of this race (stable also had 1st & 4th in 2024). This has presumably been the target (pulled up in Kerry National last month) and while only 2 lb higher than last year, he's firmly into veteran territory now.
Anyway (GER)
Useful chaser. Well held in Kerry National last year. Resumed winning ways in a small-field event at Tramore (2¾m) in August prior to an improved second on the Flat. However, perhaps isn't an obvious type to make it successive chase victories. Back up in trip with tongue strap refitted here.
Bossofthebrownies (IRE)
Very useful, low-mileage chaser. Ran his best race when runner-up in Grade 3 novice at Naas (3m, heavy) on latest start in January. Goes well fresh and potentially interesting on handicap debut, for all he's primarily raced under more testing conditions.
Kings Hill (IRE)
Course winner. Runner-up in Connacht National prior to landing a gamble at Galway Festival in July. Ran no sort of race following 7 weeks away in Kerry National latest (14/1). Had been on an upward curve prior to that, though.
Look To The West (IRE)
Lightly-raced 8-y-o. Useful winner in mares company for Henry De Bromhead (sold €42,000 in May). At longish odds when down the field in Kerry National on stable debut/return and she's 1 of 4 for last year's winning stable.
Weveallbeencaught (IRE)
Seasoned campaigner in valuable staying handicaps. Best effort for present yard when runner-up in this corresponding event 12 months ago (only 1 lb higher this time around). Likely to have been laid out for this and booking of Danny Mullins catches the eye (rode 2024 winner for this yard).
Mint Boy (IRE)
Useful novice chaser in 2024/5. Found Irish Grand National (29f) too much of a test at Fairyhouse on penultimate start of that season. Off for 17 months since pulling up in the Mayo National and it'll be some training performance if he can win this off such an absence.
Uhavemeinstitches (IRE)
Relatively lightly-raced 6-y-o. Capped a useful novice campaign over fences with Grade 3 success here prior to a forgivable end-of-season effort at Punchestown in May. Looks on a potentially lenient mark and gets the nod.
Sportinthepark (IRE)
Useful novice chaser in 2024. Made winning return over hurdles at Galway this time last year prior to finding a heavy-ground Troytown too much. Still early days in handicap chases and this could be the time to catch him following a break.
Iceberg Theory (IRE)
Made a very promising start over fences last year (including course maiden win). Shaped better than the beaten distance when fifth in the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham in March. Reasonable to think he'll be back on song following a break and better days could be ahead.
Littlefoot (IRE)
Won 2 of his first 3 chase starts in the spring. Shaped as though still in good order when unseating at Galway in July. Latest spin over hurdles presumably a springboard to this and isn't fully exposed tackling 3m for first time over fences.
Meet And Greet (IRE)
Potentially well handicapped on his useful hurdles form. Wasn't seen to best effect when well-held fifth at Listowel (2¾m) latest (closed up late) and still relatively unexposed as a staying chaser.
Will Do (IRE)
Useful on his day but isn't one for maximum faith. Ran one of his better recent races when third in novice chase at Listowel (2¾m) latest. Tough ask to land first chase victory in a race as competitive as this.
A Wave Of The Sea (IRE)
Cruised clear to capitalise on a much-reduced mark at Kilbeggan (3¼m) in late-August. An 8 lb rise hardly looks insurmountable on that evidence and has been teed up for this with a spin on the Flat. Completes a strong hand for JP McManus.
Hermino Aa (FR)
Useful at best for Gary & Josh Moore. Best form since when winning smoothly at Roscommon in June, however, that remains a standout effort since joining last year's winning connections. He's hardly a fluent jumper, either.
Prophet's Corner (IRE)
Reproduced the pick of his hurdles form for the first time in this sphere when winning over C&D (heavy) in March. Hard to be confident he'll build on that at the second attempt, though, racing from 2 lb out of the weights on return. RESERVE.
Positive Thinker (IRE)
Cheekpieces on first-time (only worn twice to date) when runner-up in 2024 Leinster National. Clearly hasn't been easiest to train since (fallen long way in the weights). Headgear goes back on following pipe-opener over hurdles earlier this month. RESERVE.
