Timeform View

Not for the first time of late, ERNIE'S VALENTINE shaped really well when posting a very good third at Southwell 2 weeks ago, travelling smoothly before paying the price for a big move into contention. Evidently down to a handy mark, he's selected to end a losing run. Tommo's Ginjaninja ran right up to his best when second at Redcar recently and he's a threat. Baloo's Blues and Typeface complete the shortlist.

Timeform Comments

Baloo's Blues
Off the mark in 5-runner handicap at Lingfield (turf) in June and produced just about his best effort yet when second of 12 over 9.5f here 38 days ago, suited by the strong gallop following a tardy start. Can be competitive again from a handy draw back at this shorter trip.
Ernie's Valentine
C&D winner last winter who confirmed his return to form and shaped really well into the bargain once more when third at Southwell (1m) 15 days ago, paying the price late for a big move into contention. Very much one to be interested in from his reduced mark.
Union Island (IRE)
Narrow winner at Leicester (1m) in May and returned to form having slipped back to that winning mark when third at Ayr (1m) in July. Well held following 10 weeks off at Southwell (1m) 2 weeks ago but he may sharpen up for that and cheekpieces go back on now.
Under The Sun
Returned to form from out of the blue when running out an 80/1 winner at Lingfield in February. Creditable in-the-frame efforts next 2 starts during the spring prior to joining very shrewd stable for £14,000 thereafter. Betting can prove a useful guide following 6 months off.
Tommo's Ginjaninja
Placed 4 times during first half of the year and right back to very best when second at Redcar (1¼m, good to soft) 3 weeks ago, arguably a shade unfortunate not to overhaul one who had kept a bit up her sleeve in front. Player back on all-weather despite wide draw.
Mr Tony (IRE)
Won on stable debut following 8 months off (also gelded) at Chepstow (1m) in July. Yet to build on that in subsequent runs refitted with blinkers at Bath/Nottingham and he needs to step up again now fitted with cheekpieces for tapeta debut.
San Juanito
Successful twice here (including over C&D) last spring for Simon & Ed Crisford. Ended time with that yard on a low-key note and whilst he's yet to threaten in handful of starts for new stable, the return to this longer trip looks in his favour from much-reduced mark. Cheekpieces on 1st time.
Vega Storm (IRE)
Has reached the frame 3 times in handicaps at up to 1m and shaped better than distance beaten suggests when seventh at Ayr (1¼m, heavy) a forward ride in a briskly-run race catching him out under the conditions. Not one to write off from this career-low mark.
Karakula Dancer
Won 3 times on all-weather for James Ferguson earlier this year, including over C&D. Comes here in good order, shaping well from further back than ideal when fourth at Kempton (1m) 23 days ago. One to bear in mind with well-run race likely to aid his cause.
Mythical Isle (IRE)
Capitalised on the drop into classified company for the first time at this course (7f) in June and posted easily his best effort since when second over C&D 24 days ago, suited by the emphasis on speed back up in trip. This looks a tougher ask, however.
Typeface
A dual 1m winner on turf last summer. Yet to score this season but extended run of placed efforts when second of 9 in handicap (11/4) at Newcastle (1¼m) 21 days ago. That not the first time he hasn't looked entirely straightforward but he commands respect as an in-form sort.
