Timeform View

Hard to rule out many in this bumper but with the Dan Skelton yard firing on all cylinders, NEWGROVE is put forward as the answer. He was an easy winner on his sole outing in Irish points earlier in the year and appears the stable first string on jockey bookings. Ballycrystal Boy was bought for a handsome sum after winning his sole start in Irish points and merits respect having joined the excellent Jamie Snowden stable. Delusionofgrandeur is the tentative pick of those with experience.

Timeform Comments

I've Got A Friend (IRE)
Idaho gelding who was runner-up on completed start in points in March. Rather fortunate to have held off 2 who had met trouble when making all in Worcester bumper on Rules debut but again knuckled down well to follow up at Hexham (2m) a fortnight ago. Has to concede weight all round, though.
Littlebobbydazzler
Dartmouth gelding who probably didn't need to improve much on the bare form of his debut third behind Tythingman to come out on top in 11-runner bumper at Bangor (17f, good) in April. Did well to overcome a pace bias that day but this is obviously tougher.
Port Isaac
Massaat gelding who knew what was required when making a winning debut in tidy fashion in 6-runner event at Doncaster in March, eased near finish. In warmer company now but shouldn't be taken lightly, especially if the race develops into a sprint.
Tythingman
Pether's Moon gelding who overcame notable greenness to make a winning debut in 10-runner bumper at Hereford (2m soft) in February, staying on to lead near finish. This is a stronger race but he's open to improvement.
Delusionofgrandeur (IRE)
€13,000 Doyen gelding who drew a blank from half a dozen goes in points but nonetheless drew upon that experience as he found only one too good switched to a bumper at Worcester (2m) in June, the pair clear. Looks just about the form pick for last year's winning yard.
Ballycrystal Boy (IRE)
€42,000 3-y-o, £160,000 4-y-o, Crystal Ocean gelding. Dam (h124), winning hurdler up to 2½m, half-sister to fairly useful 2m-19f hurdle winner Samby. Successful sole outing in Irish points (Mar 1) and has joined a yard which has a fine record in this sphere.
Cask Of Pimlico (IRE)
No Risk At All gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including fairly useful hurdler Rayna's World. Dam unraced half-sister to high-class 1¼m/1½m performer Prince Bishop. Wears a tongue strap having already had a breathing operation.
Dennis's Honor
Dragon Dancer gelding who exceeded expectations borne out by his pedigree when second of 5 in 2m Warwick bumper on debut in May. Since left Steph Hollinshead and this is an appreciably deeper race.
Freetobe (IRE)
£50,000 4-y-o, Jukebox Jury gelding. Half-brother to a point winner. Dam (b73), lightly raced in bumpers/over hurdles, half-sister to useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 25f) Ericht and useful bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler (2m winner) Celtic Folklore. Runner-up only start in Irish points.
Micky Haller
€13,000 3-y-o, £75,000 4-y-o, Passing Glance gelding. Dam (h124), 2½m hurdle winner, closely related to fairly useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 4m) Perfect Pirate. Successful on sole outing in points in March but Harry Skelton seemingly prefers Newgrove.
Milord D'anjou (FR)
€50,000 3-y-o, £50,000 4-y-o, Spanish Moon gelding. Brother to smart hurdler Grand Roi, stays 3m, and half-brother to Dame Anjou. Dam unraced. Placed on second of 2 outings in Irish points (Apr 1) and has since joined a powerful NH yard.
Newgrove (IRE)
€38,000 3-y-o, Doyen gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to smart hurdler/high-class chaser (stayed 23f) Kalashnikov. Easy winner of sole start in Irish points in March and of obvious interest for a top yard, the jockey bookings suggesting he's the stable first string.
Ask Millie (IRE)
Mahler mare who was bought for €40,000 after winning second of 2 starts in Irish points. Yard had a bumper debutant to run well at Sedgefield the other day.
Stoner's Sister (IRE)
£50,000 3-y-o, Maxios filly. Closely related to a winner, and half-sister to useful hurdler/winning chaser Stoner's Choice. Dam (h113), bumper/2m hurdle winner, half-sister to fairly useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 3m) Larks Lad. Yard has success with this family.
