Timeform View

The progressive ANYASI is proven in the mud and can get the better of fellow 3-y-o Shipbourne, who impressed on Southwell's AW last month and a heavy-ground debut success last autumn suggests today's ground shouldn't be an issue for him however much rain arrives. Lir Speciale also merits respect at a course he scored twice on deep ground at this time last year.

Timeform Comments

Godwinson
Only 2 lb higher than when landing the 2025 Lincoln over C&D for William Haggas. However, he has been operating a notch below that level for a while now. Hasn't helped his cause by blowing the start on 2 of his 3 starts for present yard, either, latterly in the Golden Mile 12 weeks ago.
River King (IRE)
Useful handicapper. Doubled his tally at Newbury (1m firm) before fine efforts in top-end handicaps at Royal Ascot and over C&D. Below form returned to more positive tactics at Ascot since (hung right) and testing conditions may not be ideal for one who shows plenty of speed.
Cavolo Nero
Won at Yarmouth in June (final start for James Ferguson) and followed up over 1m at Kempton for new stable in August. Disappointed back at Kempton since but capable of bouncing back under Murphy.
Shipbourne
Impressive debut winner in the mud at Newbury last October and added a 7f course novice on return in June. Disappointed in first 2 handicaps but back on the up with a bang to win 1m Southwell handicap last month. Respected off 6 lb higher.
Anyasi
Looked a good prospect when winning 6f novices at Yarmouth/Leicester this summer. Back on the up when ¾-length second to subsequent winner at Haydock (7f, soft) latest. The way he saw that out provides hope that 1m should be within range. High on the shortlist.
Mr Professor (IRE)
Winner of the 2024 Lincoln over C&D on heavy. Seemingly not quite the same force but penultimate second of 9 to a progressive 3-y-o at Kempton (1m) shows he's still useful on his day. Not discounted with ground conditions likely to be in his favour.
Andesite
It took a while for him to add to his 2-y-o debut success but he scored back to back over 7f at Thirsk (good to soft) and Chester (heavy) in recent months. Can probably forgive his latest run over an inadequate 6f.
Desperate Dan (IRE)
Won this race on heavy ground last year but hasn't found the same form this season despite being faced with similarly testing conditions, including at Haydock just 8 days ago. First-time blinkers need to spark a revival.
Monoceros
Ex-Godolphin gelding. Showed improved form to double his tally in gutsy fashion at Haydock (1m, soft) last month but that form has taken a couple of knocks and he's been well below par twice since. Bounce back needed.
Lir Speciale (IRE)
Ended 2025 with back-to-back wins over 7f in the mud. Lost his way a little in midsummer but back on form when third of 10 at Haydock (1m, heavy) 2 weeks ago. Has to enter calculations in first-time cheekpieces for in-form yard.
On The River
Latest success came at Carlisle (1m, soft) last June. Runner-up efforts at Beverley and Haydock in recent starts underline how well he operates in the mud. Each-way claims.
