Timeform View

GLANCING JACK returns on the back of a very promising novice campaign and he's fancied to make a winning start for the all-powerful Dan Skelton yard. The dangers are headed by hat-trick-seeking Hillberry Hill, who may have been let-in lightly by the handicapper. Kamsinas won this corresponding race in 2024 and is weighted to go well again, with improving A King of Magic also considered.

Timeform Comments

Knickerbockerglory (IRE)
Useful front runner who is proven under testing conditions. Narrowly denied on first crack at 2½m (good) at Bangor in March. Wasn't primed for his reappearance (as often the case) in Welsh Champion Hurdle (2m). Respected back up in trip, though perhaps building up to something later in the season.
Kamsinas (FR)
Latest win came in the 2024 renewal of this race. Struggled in graded company following a short stint over fences last winter. Finished the season in form when 7½-length third off this mark in a valuable Plumpton handicap. Appeals given his record fresh, though extreme ground wouldn't be ideal.
Deep Cave (IRE)
Out-and-out stayer who landed a big pot here in 2025. Things didn't go to plan following 2 chase wins last season. Still has something to offer in this sphere, fifth behind a couple of next-time-out winners at Haydock (3m) in May. Rusty on his comeback and may still need this rare start over 2½m.
Norn Iron (IRE)
Progressive chaser who won a pair of small-field Sandown handicaps (soft) last season. Only denied a hat-trick by a smart one in a big-field listed handicap at the Punchestown festival. Respected off 7 lower hurdle mark, this presumably a shot to nothing ahead of a second season over fences.
A King Of Magic (FR)
Low-mileage 5-y-o. Very much on the up at the close of last season. Relished the step up to this trip (travelled with much more purpose) when comprehensively beating a couple of last-time-out winners at Perth in April. Open to further improvement for top yard, for all this is a step up in class.
Listentoyourheart (IRE)
Useful mare who had a couple of sighters prior to winning a valuable 2½m handicap at Windsor on New Year's Day last season. Likely being campaigned with another tilt at that race in mind, having been given another considerate reappearance in the Welsh Champion Hurdle earlier this month.
Sanilam (IRE)
Smooth traveller whose 4 wins have come on varying ground, latest when completing a double in a valuable handicap at Musselburgh (2½m, good) in March. Seemingly undone by more demanding conditions at Ayr subsequently. Will be a fresher horse here, though needs to resume progress to defy this mark.
Vol Royale (IRE)
Front runner who got back on the up when making it 3-3 at Hereford (19.5f) in March, seen to full advantage under well-judged ride. This demands a fair bit more, and he's unlikely to get it all his own way in a more competitive handicap.
Hillberry Hill (IRE)
Chasing type who won a maiden at the second attempt for Ms Margaret Mullins last winter. Changed hands for £70,000 prior to easily defying a penalty in a weak Southwell novice (2½m) on stable debut in March. Likely to progress further and opening mark potentially lenient as he bids for a hat-trick.
Glancing Jack
Low-mileage 5-y-o who made a fine start to his career for Tom Symonds last season. Found a chunk of improvement to split a trio of subsequent winners when 3¼-length second on handicap bow at Newbury in March. Since switched to powerful connections and strong chance he picks up where he left off.
Frontier Prince
NON RUNNER.
Race To Base (IRE)
Fairly useful 2m novice winner. Pulled up in Sandown EBF Final on handicap debut, however, all the better for a breathing operation when runner-up to a useful one there (2m) in April. Improvement to find, though isn't fully exposed back up in trip on third start for very capable yard.
Analiese
Forward-going type. Underlined a marked improvement in attitude/reliability when fortunate to land a third mares handicap win at Chepstow in March. Well-held fourth off this mark in an end-of-season event at Haydock. Does at least handle conditions and is 1-1 over C&D (albeit a much weaker race).
