CHARLES DARNAY could prove a class above his rivals on hurdling debut. Jerseygeordie looks the pick of those with experience, ahead of Houndswood Willow.

Timeform Cash Out Hints

Charles Darnay traded at a low of 5.50 and Betfair SP of 6.00 when losing last time, a race in which it raced prominently.

Timeform Comments

Charles Darnay
Progressive 3-y-o. Shaped encouragingly on hat-trick bid/return (following a breathing operation) when third in a solid Newmarket handicap (1½m) latest. Very much the type to make a hurdler for top yard, and he's easily the likeliest winner considering the modest standard of those with experience.
Houndswood Willow (IRE)
Mostly disappointing on the Flat. Placed in a couple of juvenile hurdles at Fontwell, the form of the latter proving solid. Only managed a well-held fifth at Chepstow (2m, soft) last time, though, looking unenthusiastic rather than green.
Jerseygeordie
Flat winner in Jersey. Taken well to hurdling since joining excellent yard, making it back-to-back places when 5½-length second at Sedgefield (17f) latest. Likely to again find one with superior Flat ability too good. First-time tongue strap now added.
Mick The Hat (IRE)
New Bay gelding. Dam half-sister to fairly useful hurdler (stays 3m) Bright Legend. Modest maiden for Ralph Beckett. Offered nothing (blew the start) on first run for new stable latest and makes limited appeal on hurdling debut.
Nicolai
Offered little at long odds in a trio of juvenile hurdles. Type that yard targets at low-grade handicaps.
Roly Mo
Masterstroke gelding. Dam (h111), 2m hurdle winner, sister to fairly useful hurdler/high-class chaser (stayed 21f) Rajdhani Express. Easy to back when in need of the experience (pulled up) on debut at Chepstow (2m, soft) earlier this month. Possibly one for down the line.
Sapphire Dream (IRE)
Sold cheaply on the back of a modest first Flat win for Charlie Clover. Always behind in first-time tongue strap on hurdling/stable debut at Fontwell (2¼m) latest.
Zipwire (IRE)
Fair all-weather winner on the Flat (stays 1¼m). Hard to be confident of an immediate impact on hurdling bow.
Guildhall Graduate (IRE)
Modest maiden in both codes for Gavin Patrick Cromwell. Shaped a bit better than the beaten distance (30 lengths) on stable debut at Worcester (2m). This is probably a springboard to handicap hurdles.
Talka (FR)
One standout effort (fair form) on Flat in France. Has made a discouraging start for present yard, running out on hurdling debut at Worcester (2m, 50/1). One to treat with caution in first-time blinkers.
