Timeform View

HAVANA RUM shaped quite well when belatedly tackling 7f for the first time at Newcastle recently and is worth a chance to confirm that promise. Last year's winner Evocative Spark heads the many possible dangers along with Tim Easterby's pair Vince Le Prince and Mister Sox, both of whom know where the winning post is here.

Timeform Comments

Mister Sox
Multiple course winner who cashed in on a falling mark at Pontefract (6f, good) 12 days ago. Creditable third of 10 over 6f here (good) since, nearest finish. Enters calculations.
Gentle George
Successful twice for Mick Appleby as a juvenile but hard to be encouraged by his efforts for new yard this season. This is a drop in class but still hard to be confident about.
Havana Rum (IRE)
Ran one of this season's better races when second at Pontefract (6f) in August and respectable fourths on his last 2 outings, tackling 7f for the first time at Newcastle latterly. Might prove the answer.
The Resdev Scholar (IRE)
A 3-time winner in 2025, including twice on heavy. Best effort this year when runner-up at Chester (7.5f, soft) in June but his last couple runs have been underwhelming despite having the ground in his favour.
Decem Starr (IRE)
Maiden but posted his best effort yet when second of 12 in 7f Southwell handicap starting out for Julie Camacho 31 days ago. That suggests he can pick up a race for his new stable.
Swift Salian (IRE)
Runner-up over 1m on his first 3 outings this season but has largely struggled since. Remains to be seen whether a drop back in trip improves matters.
Wobwobwob (IRE)
Winless since 2024 but has a much reduced mark as a result and Friday's third of 11 to a pair of 3-y-os at Doncaster (6f, heavy) was a step back in the right direction. Claims if he can build on that.
Black Storm (IRE)
Free-going sort who was suited by a well-run race when scoring over C&D in August. Well below that level in his 3 outings since, including back here. First-time blinkers replace cheekpieces.
The Gay Blade
Is enjoying a fine season, bagging a sixth success at Ayr in June. Latest 6f course fourth of 10 shows he's still in reasonable form.
Vince Le Prince
Made all for a fourth C&D success in September and added another good effort here when runner-up 10 days ago. Likely to be in the thick of things again.
Evocative Spark (IRE)
Won this race on soft 12 months ago and has added 3 more course wins this year. Shaped as if back in form when fifth of 12 at Thirsk (7f) last month and caught too far back here since. Well handicapped again.
Highfield Viking
Got off the mark for the year in 11-runner event at Ayr (7f, heavy) last month but ran abysmally at Redcar since.
Another Investment (IRE)
Went close 3 times in succession in July and August but his form has tailed off since.
Surprised
Best effort when third in handicap at Carlisle (6f) in May but below form since. It remains to be seen whether first-time cheekpieces spark an upturn in her fortunes.
Penny Ghent
Thrived when refitted with blinkers in the spring, landing back-to-back handicaps in May. Creditable third at Redcar at the end of July but 2 poor runs have followed. Needs a change of headgear (first-time visor instead of blinkers) to spark a revival.
