PONTE CARLO looked a different proposition dropped to 5f on soft when scoring comfortably in maiden company at Hamilton and the handicapper might have taken a chance allowing him back into a nursery off a mark in the 60s. Wolf's Gallop was a fine second on deep ground at Ffos Las on his latest start. Dowman was below par on his previous attempt on testing ground but George Boughey is evidently happy to let him have another go and he'll be thereabouts if handling conditions.

Timeform Comments

Bear Lee (IRE)
Fair performer who won a 5f Musselburgh maiden in June but has run poorly in nurseries on her last 2 outings. Ground as testing as this an unknown.
The Resdev Roman (IRE)
Returned from a 3-month break with an improved effort to make it third time lucky at Ripon (5f, good to soft) in September. Disappointing in Hamilton nursery (5f, soft) since, though.
Dowman (IRE)
Fitted with a tongue strap when getting off the mark in Windsor novice in June. Better form when placed in nurseries on 3 of his 4 outings since. Good shout on those efforts but was below par on the previous occasion he encountered soft ground.
Chief Minister
Lightly-raced maiden who improved for the switch to nurseries when second at Ffos Las (6f, soft) last month. Ran poorly with cheekpieces added at Bath since and they are quickly removed.
Sue's Last Chance (IRE)
Fair form. Couldn't cope with big-field nurseries at the York Ebor and Doncaster St Leger meetings but fared better with sights lowered when third of 10 over 5f at Wolverhampton in first-time visor (retained) latest. Needs to build on that now.
Wolf's Gallop
Fair form. Best effort when second of in nursery at Ffos Las (5f, heavy) 31 days ago, pulling 2 lengths clear of a next-time-out winner in third. Likely to face similar conditions here. Respected.
Ponte Carlo (IRE)
Looked well suited by a drop to 5f on soft ground when opening his account in maiden at Hamilton last month. Faced with a similar scenario here and a bold bid looks likely.
Penny Capri (IRE)
5f Catterick nursery winner for David Loughnane in July. Has beaten only one home in a pair of similar races since but worth keeping an eye on in the betting having switched to the excellent James Owen yard.
Defiant Dream
Modest maiden but latest Wolverhampton fourth shows that she can be competitive in low-grade nurseries. 2 lb out of the handicap but the fact she handles the mud counts for something.
