Timeform View

ARCADIAN STAR sets a fair standard and may add another success to Stuart Edmunds' recent haul. Paul Nicholls' The Final Word is feared most if building on his hurdling debut promise at the second attempt. The market should offer plenty of clues regarding the hurdling debutants, with Justalargewhisky, Barrow Hill Lad and Walk Of Faith all potentially interesting.

Timeform Comments

Arcadian Star (IRE)
Not beaten far behind above-average types in a bumper. Set to better his previous hurdle form on the back of a breathing operation when falling 2 out (1-length off winner) at Uttoxeter in March. Leading claims if fit and well for yard in red-hot form (9 wins & 9 placed from last 26 runners).
Baile An Or (IRE)
Fair sort who has shown promise in bumpers/maiden hurdles to date. Matched his hurdling debut form when beaten 21¾ lengths on return at Chepstow (19f, soft) latest. Should do better at some point over this sort of trip, perhaps in handicaps after this run.
Barrow Hill Lad
From a useful family. Didn't kick on in bumpers after scoring impressively on debut at this corresponding fixture 12 months ago. Foolish to dismiss out of hand given his pedigree/course form (fourth since developed into a progressive hurdler).
Common People (IRE)
€23,000 3-y-o, £20,000 5-y-o, Yeats gelding. Closely related to modest hurdler/chaser Unspeakable. Dam unraced, out of half-sister to useful but temperamental 2m chaser Dines and Midlands Grand National winner G V A Ireland. Off mark in Irish points at third attempt. Looks a chasing type on paper.
Feel No Fear (IRE)
£50,000 4-y-o, Feel Like Dancing gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including useful staying chaser Checkitout and fair 2¾m hurdle winner Derryville. Left in a distant second in an Irish point last spring. Market can guide on Rules debut for yard that knows the time of day.
Jpr Two (IRE)
€120,000 half-brother to useful hurdler/very smart chaser Jpr One. Well held in a bumper/maiden hurdle 4 months apart last season. Since given a breathing operation and looks the stable second string. Engaged 1.21 Newton Abbot Wednesday.
Justalargewhisky (FR)
No Risk At All. Dam (c116/h116), 17f chase winner in France, half-sister to useful hurdler/chaser (stays 3m) Bass Rock. Showed ability when 19¼-length third in a Chepstow bumper in January. Up in trip for hurdling debut (without tongue strap) and entitled to do better given his pedigree/connections.
Lucky Bailly (FR)
Half-brother to 3 winners, including useful chaser Gold Cup Bailly (2½m-3m winner). Proved a different proposition in terms of form/know-how when 11¼ lengths third in a Worcester bumper (2m, 125/1) on return. Yard in decent nick and at least worth noting for each-way support on hurdling bow.
Royalty Row'd (IRE)
Brother to fairly useful hurdler/chase winner Raglan Road (19f-2½m winner). Hasn't built on a promising bumper debut, hung left when well held on return (had breathing operation in the interim) at Worcester latest. Betting can guide expectations up in trip on hurdling bow.
The Final Word (IRE)
Successful sole start in Irish points. Third under a hands-and-heels ride behind a now-useful one on hurdling debut at Taunton (19f). Clearly wasn't 100% in first-time tongue strap there subsequently (since had breathing operation). Still merits respect for top yard following 20 months away.
Walk Of Faith (IRE)
€120,000 Walk In The Park gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including smart hurdler/very smart chaser Minella Cocooner. Showed ability when beaten 6¼ lengths in a solid Carlisle bumper on debut. Now sent hurdling following 2 years off and interesting if the market again speaks in his favour.
Ignite The Spark (IRE)
€25,000 3-y-o, £7,000 4-y-o, Blue Bresil gelding. Half-brother to modest hurdler. Dam (h100), 19f-23f hurdle winner, sister to very smart hurdler/top-class chaser (stayed 25f) The Storyteller. Cheap purchase was the last of 4 finishers on sole Irish point start. Others appeal more on paper.
Some Buck (IRE)
€12,000 3-y-o, Buck's Boum gelding. Dam lightly raced over fences in France, out of half-sister to smart and very prolific winning French chaser up to 2¾m Cyrlight. Fourth in an Irish point this spring and seemingly the stable second string on jockey bookings.
