Timeform View

Preference is for SERGEI BREEZE, who had been going the right way prior to having excuses at Sandown on his latest outing. The lightly-raced 3-y-o is taken to resume his progress and open his account, at the chief expense of 6-time course winner Albus Anne. Newtown Duke completes the shortlist.

Timeform Comments

Wisper (IRE)
Made a winning return at Windsor (11.5f) in May and has been running creditably in defeat since, not getting the clearest of runs when 2½ lengths sixth of 11 at Goodwood (1¼m) 18 days ago.
Box To Box (IRE)
Made all from reduced mark at Haydock last summer and finished 2025 with a pair of good runner-up efforts. Raced only 3 times this season and not discredited the last twice, fifth of 9 at Yarmouth on latest outing.
Royal Approval (IRE)
3-time winner for Andrew Balding who showed some promise in maiden hurdles first 2 starts for Gordon Elliott last year. However, was pulled up on return and back on the Flat he finished last of 6 in claimer at Tramore in July. Off 4 months ahead of stable debut.
Oratorical
Winner of a heavy ground novice at Nottingham (8.5f) a year ago but well beaten in a trio of handicaps this season. Has enough to prove now sporting first-time cheekpieces (has been gelded).
Belfrina (IRE)
Winner of a Curragh maiden in September 2024 on second start on the Flat. Fairly useful form over hurdles for this yard since, including listed success at Doncaster in January last year. Off 19 months (has had another breathing operation) ahead of handicap debut in this sphere. Tongue strap on.
Due To Henry
Has tendency to carry head awkwardly but was on a going day when returning to winning ways in 11-runner handicap at Salisbury at the beginning of the month. Remains well treated on old form if able to back up latest effort.
Just An Hour (IRE)
Gained reward for consistency when getting off the mark for the season at Ffos Las (1¾m, soft) last month. Ran creditably under a penalty when third of 5 at Ascot (2m) since. Engaged 3.16 Bath Wednesday.
Helga
Left debut form behind when winning a Kempton maiden (11f) in January, though had the run of the race. Was too free when last of 5 in handicap over the same C&D next time and absent 8 months since ahead of first run after leaving Andrew Balding. Makes turf debut.
Liveinthelight
Made it 3 wins from first 4 starts in handicaps when scoring in 3-runner event at Leicester (1½m) in July. Ran well at Salisbury next time, but found run of good form coming to a halt when fifth of 6 at Goodwood and off 2 months since.
Newtown Duke (IRE)
Off the mark at Newcastle (1m) on final outing last year and ran well when making the frame on turf (12.5f/1¼m) first 3 starts this season. Raced close to a solid gallop when down the field at Yarmouth (11.5f) 17 days ago, so he's worth treating as if still in good form.
Kokoluna
Made a successful handicap debut at Nottingham (8.5f, good to soft) in April and doubled her tally at Goodwood (1¼m) in August, awarded the race after suffering interference. Possibly needed the outing back at Nottingham 22 days ago, so this run should reveal more.
Sergei Breeze
Progressed again making handicap debut when runner-up at Sandown in September, beaten only by a fellow improver (the front 3 clear). Possibly found the race coming too soon at Salisbury 15 days later, so he could well get back on the up given more time ahead of this race.
Albus Anne
All 6 career victories at this course, recording back-to-back soft ground wins last season (including this same race). Off the mark for the current campaign when overcoming trouble in running 3 weeks ago and she can remain competitive here with conditions to suit.
The Dark Baron (IRE)
Sole turf success came over this C&D last autumn and has since won 3 times at Wolverhampton, the latest over 9.5f last month. However, finished down the field at the same all-weather track 24 days ago.
