Timeform View

AEGEAN PRINCE could barely have been more impressive despite having been off the track for almost a year when winning a Haydock handicap last time and is fancied to successfully step up in grade here at the chief expense of Al Aasy, who arrives on the back of Group successes at Deauville and Ascot. The likeable Evanesco can complete the 1-2-3.

Timeform Comments

Al Aasy (IRE)
Grand servant who added yet another Group victory to his CV when taking the 5-runner Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot (1½m, good to firm) 27 days ago by neck from Royal Playwright. Beaten favourite in this for the last 2 seasons but he has to be respected given current vein of form.
Aegean Prince
Hasn't made it to the track very often but has lots of talent and looked well worth his place in this company when returning from 11 months off to record an impressive success in a 10-runner handicap at Haydock (1¾m, soft) 55 days ago. Makes serious appeal.
Al Qareem (IRE)
Smart front runner who won 4 times in 2025, including this race, and bagged another listed victory at Musselburgh (1¾m) from Mount Atlas on his return in April. Rare poor efforts on his last 2 starts (possibly amiss at York when last seen) and market might prove best guide after over 4 months off.
Old Harrovian
Bolted up at Newcastle in January 2025 and should've followed up in the Easter Classic there 3 months later. Made an encouraging return from 17 months off at Newbury but this is asking a lot just a month on.
Royal Playwright
Useful colt who doubled his tally in a conditions event at Goodwood (1¼m) last September. Better than ever when neck second of 5 to Al Aasy in Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot (1½m, good to firm) 27 days ago, though contrasting conditions may not suit quite as well.
Evanesco
Uncomplicated sort. Travelled well/tracked a true pace when landing the Silver Bell Handicap at Hamilton in August. Since posted smart efforts in valuable handicaps to finish 1¾-length fifth at Leopardstown (13f) and head second at C&D earlier this month. Can give another good account up in grade.
Rebel Rocker
Won Kempton maiden on debut in November. Highly tried in his 4 starts this season, running to a useful level each time, but limitations have rather been exposed and others are likelier to score.
