Timeform View

VOLENTI produced a promising effort over C&D earlier in the month and a reproduction of that form might be enough to see him end his lengthy losing run. Launceston and Book of Life might prove the biggest dangers.

Timeform Comments

Distillate
Irish raider who has won twice over 7f here in recent weeks, though was beaten into third when bidding for the hat-trick here on Thursday night. Respected again if turned out quickly.
Launceston (IRE)
Stepped up with each run for this yard, off the mark in classified company at Ffos Las in August (1m). Resumed winning ways when just holding on in a tight finish in a 9-runner handicap at Brighton (1¼m, good, 4/1) 25 days ago and he's respected again after 2 lb rise.
Book Of Life
Remains a long a time without a win but has made the frame on 5 of his last 6 starts, most recently when a creditable fourth of 10 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f, 11/1) 8 days ago. Player down in grade.
Age Of Time (FR)
Doubled his tally when with the Ian Williams yard this time last year. Has fallen to a handy mark following a low-key spell with Steph Hollinshead. Very much shaped as if needing a step back up in trip when sixth of 11 in handicap at this course (6f) 7 days ago but regular headgear remains absent.
Archangel Josepi (IRE)
Still looking for a breakthrough victory but placed twice at Newcastle early this year, beaten only by an improver over 7f in March. Shaped as if retaining ability after a 7-month break (left Brian Ellison) when fifth of 11 in handicap at Musselburgh (7f, good, 66/1) 19 days ago.
Captive Beauty (IRE)
Just failed to make a winning handicap debut at Wolverhampton (7f) and has finished placed of 2 of her outings in similar company since, albeit beaten a long way into second in a 13-runner event at Kempton (1m) 22 days ago, Place claims again.
Mercurius Power (IRE)
It's now over 2 years since he scored over C&D but he arrives in decent nick, doing all he could from a wide draw when fourth over C&D 21 days ago (also denied a clear run). Should remain competitive.
Dumfries
Winless in 2026 but has made the frame on 5 of his last 6 starts, swiftly getting back to form under a switch to positive tactics when third of 13 in handicap at this C&D (12/1) 7 days ago. Can give another good account with regular rider back on board.
Joud
Half-sister to smart 11.5f/1½m winner Star Storm who was unlucky not make a winning handicap debut in a 10-runner event at Wolverhampton (7f) last month. That form hasn't really worked out though and she was only sixth of 14 in handicap (7/1) at this C&D 16 days ago.
Secret Road (IRE)
Made a winning debut for Laura Mongan at Lingfield in March but hasn't threatened since, albeit showing a glimmer more promise when seventh of 11 in handicap (100/1) at this C&D 14 days ago, not knocked about after lacking a clear run.
Oxford Circus (IRE)
Won at Dundalk in February before losing way in headgear on turf after. Below expectations across 3 outings so far for James Owen, but application of more severe headgear (first-time visor) may help.
Herstmonceux
Ulysses gelding who was beaten a long way in 3 qualifying runs. More needed on handicap debut.
Volenti (IRE)
It's now 25 runs since his last success but he again shaped well when only just failing to reel in a better-positioned rival in a 12-runner C&D handicap 3 weeks ago. That form is working out well and he's shortlisted.
Far Ahead (IRE)
Catterick maiden winner last spring. Tumbled in the weights and more positive signs when runner-up on his last 3 outings, most recently in a 9-runner handicap at Pontefract (1m, good to firm, 2/1) back in June. Has 124-day absence to overcome.
