Timeform View

A useful handicap. BEAGLE BAY let favourite backers down at York earlier in the month but is probably worth another chance given how well his Sandown defeat of Raammee in June has worked out. Returning Gosden stable handicap newcomer Lighting Thunder brings obvious unexposed potential. Charlie Appleby pair Man of Vision and Fort Rock are also 3-y-os with positive profiles, while River King scored in good style at Doncaster last weekend.

Timeform Comments

River King (IRE)
Took his form to a new level when 2-length winner on heavy ground at Doncaster (1m) last weekend. Saw off a pair of 3-y-os on that occasion and likely to remain very competitive off 5 lb higher.
Godwinson
Only 2 lb higher than when landing the 2025 Lincoln over C&D for William Haggas. However, he has been operating a notch below that level for a while now. Hasn't helped his cause by blowing the start on 2 of his 3 starts for present yard, either, latterly in the Golden Mile 3 months ago.
Beagle Bay (FR)
Quickly developed into a useful performer, including a defeat of the Raammee (won strong York handicaps on next 2 starts) at Sandown (1m, good) in June. Possibly needed first run for 4 months more than anticipated (7/4 favourite) when fifth of 17 at York 22 days ago. Worth another chance.
Supido (FR)
Won on return at Chester in May. Bit of a mixed record since but latest third of 13 at Goodwood (1m, good to soft) was creditable.
Sunset On Leros
Useful sort who won a 7f course novice last summer. Showed he's trained on when 6½ lengths third of 14 in Italian 2000 Guineas at Milan in May but never involved in strong handicaps at Royal Ascot and Newmarket July meeting since. Needs to get career back on track after a break (has been gelded).
The Liffey (IRE)
Made hay in Dundalk claimers prior to a successful stable debut at Kempton (1m) in July. Backed that up when runner-up in a highly competitive Glorious Goodwood (7f) handicap and latest fourth in a classified stakes at Ascot (1m, good to firm) shows he's still in form.
Man Of Vision
All-weather novice winner at 2. Improved again when just denied in C&D handicap on reappearance in May. Failed to confirm that promise on next 2 outings but back on the up with cheekpieces added (retained) when taking a July Course handicap under Toby Moore 12 weeks ago. That form has been franked.
Rogue Millions
Useful sort who won twice in 2025 for James Owen but has found it harder this year (trained first 2 starts by Ed Bethell before rejoining former stable). Hooded first time.
Fort Rock
Wootton Bassett colt who was a narrow winner of a pair of 7f Kempton novices last autumn. Promise in a pair of 1m handicaps here (July Course latterly) at the beginning of the summer. Returns from a break (has been gelded) with obvious unexposed potential for top stable.
God Of War
Scored at Sandown (7f, soft) last summer. Hasn't matched that level this season but latest third of 17 at Leicester (7f, good) shows that he's down to a mark he can be very competitive from. The cheekpieces he's worn of late are left off.
Lighting Thunder
Night of Thunder colt who has made a promising start, finishing runner-up on first 2 outings before making it third time lucky in novice at Nottingham (8.3f, good) in May. Not seen since but could have plenty more to offer in handicaps for leading stable.
Sterling Knight
Returned to his best when scoring in good style at Newmarket (1m) over C&D in May but mixed record since, including turning in a lacklustre display at Bath only 12 days ago. Needs refitted cheekpieces and a return to the Rowley Mile to help spark a revival.
Rainbow Nebula (FR)
Won off 2 lb higher at Redcar (1m, good to firm) in May but more miss than hit since, including always behind at York 3 weeks ago.
Bearin Up (IRE)
Has shown improved form this season, winning over C&D and at Hamilton at the start of the summer. Plenty of creditable efforts in defeat since, including second of 15 over C&D (good to soft) 9 days ago.
