FRESHERS WEEK makes plenty of appeal on the pick of last season's form. He's worth another chance with Brian Hughes taking over and his yard in superb heart. Aire Spray and Letterston Lady head the dangers in an interesting race for the grade.

Timeform Comments

Imperial Merlin (IRE)
Course winner who recorded a career-best success in refitted cheekpieces at Wetherby in March. Stepped up on an encouraging return at Cartmel when 4 lengths third of 6 at Hexham (23f) latest. Back in class 4 company, however, lack of pace in the race again gives pause.
Letterston Lady
Talented mare who hasn't stood much racing in recent seasons. Thriving when landing back-to-back Market Rasen handicaps last year. Smooth-travelling second at Perth on hat-trick bid/return in late-September. Has to be high on the shortlist, with that race already producing 4 next-time-out winners.
Got A Dream (IRE)
Landed a gamble on reappearance at Chepstow last year. Found plenty for pressure to make it 3 wins from 4 in handicaps at Exeter (2¾m) in April. Matched that fairly useful form when 8-length third on return at Chepstow (3m) this time around, and he's still relatively unexposed at this trip.
Freshers Week (IRE)
Point winner improved to get within 2¾ lengths of subsequent Silver Trophy winner at Wetherby in March. Let down by his jumping at Punchestown (19f) before likely needing the run (well behind Got A Dream) on softer ground than previously faced on return. Entitled to do better with yard now flying.
Evaluation
Useful (dour stayer) on the Flat in 2024. Went as close as he has in a handicap hurdle at Kelso prior to creditable 4-length third at Wetherby (2½m) later in October. Usual tongue strap on over hurdles for first time since joining up-and-coming yard, though not sure to stay 3m.
William Yeats
Belatedly delivered on the promise of his bumper win when successful on return at Sedgefield (2½m). Twice runner-up to a more progressive one at the same track subsequently (hung badly over 21f latest). A 3 lb rise demands more again, but he ought to stay 3m given his pedigree/pointing background.
President Scottie (IRE)
Once-fairly useful sort. Without a win since handicap hurdle double in spring 2024. Fared better than previously this year when 11-length third over fences at Perth (31f) in April. On a potentially handy mark back over hurdles and can go well fresh.
Seeyainthesuninn
Has proved a totally different proposition this season. Stayed on well to make it 4 wins from 5 starts when completing a hat-trick at Wetherby (3m) last time. Now 27 lb higher than the first of those victories and faces stiffer task upped in grade.
Aire Spray (IRE)
Wasn't held back by a slightly high head carriage when narrowly winning at Market Rasen in February (runner-up franked that form at second time of asking). Found a bit more improvement to make it 2 wins in 3 starts at Bangor (23f) on return 9 days ago. Obvious claims off an unchanged mark.
