Successful in a Grade 1 novice here in April, MIRABAD made an encouraging return over hurdles when second in a listed race at Carlisle and he could still have more to offer as a chaser. He gets the vote ahead of JPR One, who showed that he retains all of his enthusiasm when defying top weight in a Cheltenham handicap on his reappearance, with Brookie also considered.

Timeform Comments

Jpr One (IRE)
Winner of this race at Exeter back in 2024 and third in last year's renewal. Made the frame in a trio of Grade 1s to end last season, including in the Melling, before returning as good as ever with handicap success at Cheltenham 2 weeks ago. Up to a career-high mark but can make his presence felt.
Mirabad (FR)
Much improved sent chasing last season, winning twice including when causing a 50/1 surprise in the Maghull over this C&D, though was helped by how the race set up. Shaped well on return when runner-up in listed hurdle at Carlisle 15 days ago and he can make a bold bid back over fences.
Rubaud (FR)
Smart hurdler who won Grade 2 novice chase at Kempton in February last year but hasn't matched that form in 3 subsequent outings over fences, pulled up in the Grand Annual at Cheltenham this spring. Only fourth of 8 in listed hurdle at Carlisle on recent return, but this run should reveal more.
Stencil
Useful hurdler who confirmed previous promise over fences when landing a Chepstow novice in good style in January. Wasn't seen to best effect at the Cheltenham Festival, though having been well backed he was pulled up in the Red Rum here in April (final start for N. George & A. Zetterholm).
Brookie (IRE)
Smart form as a novice chaser, runner-up in the Maghull here in 2025. Form went the wrong way last season, but took a step back in the right direction when fourth of 11 in handicap at Ascot 6 days ago. Cheekpieces added and he's interesting from his reduced mark with yard going well.
Daytime Dreaming (IRE)
Progressive switched to chasing last season, building on the promise of his return with back-to-back 2m handicap wins at Southwell and Newbury. Ran at least as well when second at Uttoxeter (2½m) in March on final outing, but this is tougher as he returns from out of the weights.
