In a wide-open sprint, it could be worth taking a chance on FRANTIC in first-time blinkers. Course winners Jenever and King's Crown are feared most, with Simba's Pride and Go Victor others to consider.

Timeform Comments

Duran (IRE)
Eighteen runs since last win in 2025. Disappointed when beaten 3 lengths on first try in this grade at Nottingham last time. Did split a couple of next-time-out winners, though, and could be worth another chance with tongue strap added on second all-weather start.
Jenever
C&D winner. Strong in the betting when 3¼-length third on return to this grade at Southwell (6f) last time. Typically as effective over the minimum trip and expected to give a good account off an unchanged mark (winner off much higher last year).
Secret Guest
Course winner who hasn't tasted success since May last year. Finished 1½-length fourth in a slightly better race here (6f) latest, the form taking a few knocks subsequently. Cheekpieces back on for rare start over 5f.
Herakles (IRE)
Three-time C&D winner who finished fourth in this corresponding event last year. Resumed winning ways in this grade at Nottingham in May. Last month's comeback run here should have taken the freshness out of him, but he may still be a shade high in the weights (4 lb above latest winning mark).
Holbache
Finished third on his most recent C&D start. Hasn't fired since easily winning a veterans handicap at Catterick (off 2 lb lower mark) on return in May.
North West Gal
Landed a small-field C&D maiden on final start of 2025. Hasn't typically looked the easiest of rides in handicaps back on turf this year, however, did settle better under more patient tactics when beaten 3 lengths in this grade at Ripon last time.
Go Victor (IRE)
Has improved for the fitting of cheekpieces, travelling fluently when readily making it 2-2 in headgear at Pontefract last time. Unexposed on all-weather, too, and certainly merits respect in slightly better race for his hat-trick bid.
Thistle Nil (IRE)
Surprise 200/1 winner of an Ayr maiden (soft) in June. Back to form when doubling his tally at Hamilton (40/1) in August. Well held 3 starts since, though, and bit to prove on all-weather bow.
Lion's House
Latest win came in a similar C&D event off 2 lb higher mark in February. Ran a rare poor race in class 5 company on latest start at Ayr in September and presumably been freshened up since. Will need plenty to fall right from stall 1 (often starts slowly).
Frantic
Low-mileage 3-y-o from a good yard. Runner-up on 3 of her first 4 starts. Well treated on that form but well below par at Yarmouth last time. Interesting if first-time blinkers have the desired effect.
King's Crown (IRE)
Won twice in stronger company here last winter. Arrives in better heart than recent form figures on turf would suggest. Makes appeal back in usual headgear in his bid for a fourth C&D success.
Dragon Spin
Doubled her tally off a 2 lb higher mark at Thirsk in June. Operating a notch below her best more recently, however, she did hit the frame in a couple of all-weather nurseries off similar marks last autumn.
Simba's Pride
Won 6f handicaps at Hamilton/Ripon in May. Did all he could from a poor position when 2½-length second over C&D latest, faring best of those held up (settled better than usual). Completes a decent hand for the Michael Dods (also saddles King's Crown), though would ideally prefer more pace in race.
Speeding Bullet (IRE)
Sole success for present yard at Pontefract last June. Knocking on the door recently, again running well here when ½-length fifth of 12 over 6f last time. Booking of Kevin Stott a positive, though not guaranteed a strongly-run race back over 5f.
