Timeform View

BOOK OF LIFE and Kelpie Grey are both well treated if things fall right, the former narrowly shading the vote. Barleybrown, Archangel Josepi and Oxford Circus also need a close look in a competitive handicap.

Timeform Comments

Ana Emaraaty (IRE)
Five-time course winner. Opened account for the year over 7f here in January. Back in a 0-55 for first time since, but has an 8-month absence to overcome this time around (modest record when fresh).
Daring Leader (IRE)
Course winner who capitalised on a falling mark at Pontefract (1m) in June. Moved through the race as though back in good form when beaten 4 lengths here (1¼m) last time. Drop back in trip certainly no harm on that evidence, either.
Cloch Nua
Four-time C&D winner. Shaped encouragingly when third here in April. Finished close third on second start back from a break at Southwell (1m) last time. Has to be on the shortlist back down in grade.
Kelpie Grey
Looked ready to snap his long losing run when third off this much reduced mark at Musselburgh on penultimate start. Disappointing over same C&D subsequently, however, return to all-weather may well suit his strong-travelling style (only third start on this surface).
Book Of Life
Latest success at Wolverhampton in February 2025. Threatening to come good off a handy mark recently, again not seen to best effect when 2 lengths fourth at Wolverhampton (8.5f) latest. Can snap his losing sequence if things fall right back in a 0-55.
Oxford Circus (IRE)
Bounced back to form in a first-time visor when successful at Southwell (1m) 6 days ago, ridden out to score by ½ length from Archangel Josepi. Only fifth start for an excellent yard and should go well again under a 5-lb penalty.
Yaaser (IRE)
Slow-starting course winner who has tumbled in the weights. Hasn't faced an ideal set-up on previous 4 starts, latterly well held over a trip that probably stretches him here (1¼m). Remains a risky betting proposition.
Pallas Lord (IRE)
Five-time C&D winner who hasn't looked in any sort of form since returning from a break.
Haltonwood (IRE)
Low-mileage 3-y-o. Seemingly needed the outing more than the market expected when fifth (travelled well) on return here (1¼m) last month. Subsequently trailed the field on softer ground than previously at Redcar (28/1). Possibly worth another chance back on all-weather in first-time cheekpieces.
Archangel Josepi (IRE)
Maiden who placed twice in 3-y-o handicaps here earlier in the year. Went as close as he has when ½-length second of 12 to Oxford Circus in handicap (28/1) at Southwell (1m) 6 days ago, pulling clear of rest. Now better off at the weights and has to be respected with Jason Hart taking over.
The New Bay Pearl
Maiden who placed 3 times on all-weather last year for Roger Varian (went close here). Has found some form for present yard, also reminding why she has hasn't won a race when beaten 3 lengths at Southwell last time (again hung under pressure).
Barleybrown
Four-time C&D winner. Knocking on the door with consecutive seconds over C&D in September. Again not far off that form when fourth at Southwell last time and likely to be thereabouts if return of blinkers has the desired effect.
Peaceful Spirit (IRE)
Sold out of the Karl Burke yard for only 2,000 gns following her fourth in an ordinary all-weather maiden in spring 2025. Offered little in 4 starts for current trainer this year.
Walk On Walk On (IRE)
Better than ever on first run since leaving Noel Wilson when winning similar C&D event in September, responding well to front-running tactics. Didn't get to the lead/not in the same form here subsequently, adding to a patchy profile. Something to find at the weights, too.
