Timeform View

The exciting ALFRED WINCHAM had so much in hand at York that even a 13 lb hike doesn't look enough to stop him. 2024 winner Lord Melbourne looks to have been targeted at this again and is feared most on the back of an encouraging run at York last month. Castle Cove has been absent since winning this last year but his good record fresh means it would come as no surprise were he to go well again. The reliable Say What You See should also have a say, while Nobody Knows is the unexposed one.

Timeform Comments

Deira Mile (IRE)
Smart at his best but nowhere near that level in a couple of Group races for new trainer Jessica Bedi in the spring and easy to oppose under top weight back from 6 months off. First-time tongue tie is combined with refitted cheekpieces.
Castle Cove (IRE)
Produced a smart effort to run out an easy winner of this race on heavy ground 12 months ago. Hasn't been seen since but a good record fresh (won on debut in 2024 and on 2025 reappearance) provides hope that he can make a bold bid to defend his crown.
Too Soon
Reacted well to cheekpieces with back-to-back wins over 1½m on soft at Epsom and Goodwood this summer. Never involved in a listed race at Chester last time but this is more his thing. Toby Moore takes 7 lb off.
Sunchart
Useful dual-purpose performer. This year's Flat efforts have been no more than respectable but he should at least be sharper for a recent Leopardstown outing after 4 months off.
Lord Melbourne (IRE)
Won this on heavy 2 years ago. Creditable sixth to Castle Cove 12 months ago. Warmed up for this year's renewal with a good third of 18 at York (10.3f, soft) 4 weeks ago. Looks primed for another big run in this race.
Atherstone Warrior (IRE)
Goes well in the mud, winning a pair of 1¼m handicaps and third in this race in a productive spell last autumn. Returned with a very good second of 12 at this course (1¼m, good to soft) in March but been absent since (has left the Moore stable).
Ernst Blofeld (IRE)
Quirky sort who recorded a second career win at Kempton in May. Remained in form since, going close on all-weather at Newcastle (12.5f) 18 days ago. Same mark today. Cheekpieces refitted.
Night Breeze (IRE)
Back to winning ways at Epsom (1½m) in April. Ran with credit in defeat on his next 4 starts and usual tongue tie missing (back on now) when only ninth of 12 over 1¼m here at the Leger meeting. Can be very competitive off this mark.
Stressfree (FR)
Usually reliable performer last year. Not quite as consistent this time round but his sixth of 22 in the Ebor at York (1¾m, good to soft) was creditable and he was also a respectable fifth of 10 over 2m at Chester last time. Fifth in this last year.
Circus Of Rome
Made good progress in 2025, winning 3 times. Hasn't hit the target in 2026 but back in form when placed last twice, finishing narrowly behind Ernst Blofeld when third at Newcastle (12.5f) 18 days ago.
Arqoob (IRE)
Quirky sort has been a grand servant for connections, winning 3 times at Newmarket this year, the latest over 1½m on the Rowley course (good to firm) 5 weeks ago. 3 lb higher in a much tougher race now.
Solarize
Progressive sort who made it 4-6 in handicaps when seeing off 4 rivals at Leicester ((1½m, good to firm) on last month's turf debut. Going softer than good an unknown but he's likely capable of better again.
Alfred Wincham (IRE)
Won Down Royal bumper on sole run for Anthony McCann and has made a very bright start to his Flat career for new connections, looking a smart prospect when bolting up in 1¾m handicap at York (soft) 4 weeks ago. Raised 13 lb but that success was so impressive that he could still be ahead of his mark.
Say What You See (IRE)
Winner over 1½m at Pontefract and 10.3f at York in June. Has shown even better form when placed in competitive handicaps on all 4 outings since, most recently fourth (Lord Melbourne third) of 18 back at York (10.3f, soft) 28 days ago. Each-way claims again.
Duraji (IRE)
Useful performer who was back to the form he showed when third in the Chester Cup when fourth of 7 in handicap at Newbury (2m, firm) in July. Well below par last twice, though, and the stable has stronger claims elsewhere. This keen goer has a hood refitted.
Master Builder
Capitalised on a falling mark when landing 17-runner handicap at York (1½m, good to soft) on return in May. Better effort back at York in a light campaign since when fourth of 12 over 1¾m 4 weeks ago but Alfred Wincham was fully 12 lengths ahead. Well held in the last 2 runnings of this.
Ghaiyya
Made a winning return over C&D in April and ran up to her best having a first crack at 2m when 4 lengths second of 4 to Kirchner at Ascot (2m, good to firm) in July. Off 106 days.
Miss Dolly Rocker
Dual winner for Daniel & Claire Kubler in 2025. Ended that campaign with an excellent second of 22 to Castle Cove in this (first run for Faye Bramley). This season has yet to get going but she should be sharper for a recent outing at Bath and she's only 1 lb higher than last year.
Real Dream (IRE)
Losing run is mounting up. Ran one of this season's better races when fourth at Newbury (13f) in September but has followed it with a lesser effort at Kempton.
Tashkhan (IRE)
Really smart on Flat in prime but no win in this sphere since 2023. Was successful in maiden hurdle last winter but has been unable to get seriously competitive back on the Flat this year, beaten 5 lengths when fourth of 9 at Pontefract (2¼m, heavy) 19 days ago. Significantly back down in trip.
Sir Hannibal (GER)
Low-mileage 4-y-o who was back from 14 months off to win a 1¼m Newmarket novice (good to firm) in September. Creditable fifth of 11 on handicap debut at Nottingham (1¼m, good to soft) since. Unexposed but he'll need significant improvement stepping up to 1½m for first time.
Nobody Knows (IRE)
Won novices at Ayr (soft) and Wolverhampton on first 2 starts. Useful effort when close third in Esher Cup at Sandown on 1m handicap debut in April and made encouraging return from absence when keeping on from too far back for fifth in a hot race at York (10.3f) last month. Player if stamina holds.
Stem (IRE)
Gained a first win since his debut in 9-runner Sandown handicap (1¼m, good to firm) In July. Respectable fifth of 11 at Newbury (1¼m, firm) 7 weeks ago. Saddle slipped on previous attempt at 1½m.
