PORT STATION can become another winning stable debutant for the impressive James Owen team. Novelista shades Gone Country for the next-best vote, with Wings Of Ayrton the pick of the remainder.

Timeform Comments

Cluain Chormaic (IRE)
Consistent 5-y-o who's a half-brother to a useful stayer. Finished 12¾ lengths third on handicap bow at Hereford (2½m) in May. Fairly treated off 2 lb lower, however, he may need a step up in trip to capitalise.
Kalif D'airy (FR)
Consistent type from yard among the winners. Found improvement to get off the mark on reappearance/chase debut at Lingfield this time last year. Didn't see out his race as well on either subsequent start. Bit to find at the weights back hurdling in change of headgear.
Novelista (IRE)
Fairly useful winner on the Flat for Charlie Johnston. Runner-up both starts since hurdling debut, latterly beaten ½-length (made late blunders and rider dropped whip) on return in Fontwell maiden. Can continue to progress now handicapping.
Port Station (IRE)
Made a promising start to his hurdling career last season, finishing close second in a Newcastle novice on final start for Iain Jardine in April. Has since joined an outstanding yard and is fancied to go one better on handicap debut.
Wings Of Ayrton (IRE)
Runner-up sole start in Irish points. Showed much more than first time up when 12½ lengths third at Uttoxeter (2m) on return. That's some way off the form of the principals, however, he's unexposed and likely to improve for the switch to a handicap/longer trip.
Amatchmadeinheaven
Low-mileage 5-y-o. Successful in Exeter bumper/maiden hurdle prior to racing too freely under his regular amateur rider on handicap bow at Warwick (19f) in June. Beaten by more than the longer trip on return at Chepstow (3m), too, and others arrive with a more solid profile.
Joining Force (IRE)
Runner-up on second of 2 starts in Irish points. Steadily progressive in maiden hurdles last season. Shaped well when 1¾-length second on chasing debut/return at Stratford latest. Will win races over fences, however, he needs plenty more again on handicap hurdle bow.
Gone Country (IRE)
Well backed when off the mark in 2¾m Fontwell handicap in March. Improved again when seeing off largely exposed rivals on return at Plumpton (21f). Hat-trick a distinct possibility given his profile, for all he faces some sterner opposition this time.
