Timeform View

BLUE IN THE WEST was right back to his best at the end of last season, and he gets the vote in a wide-open handicap. Getaway Theatre could have a big say for her in-form yard, while interesting stable-switcher Midweek Voices needs a close look. Colonial Empire is a lively each-way player.

Timeform Comments

Sparkling Duke (IRE)
Seemingly reformed for present yard (also saddle Stratton Oakmont). Won all 3 soft/heavy-ground handicap starts here last season (sole poor run at Exeter). Justified strong support to complete a C&D double in March. Has to be respected on hat-trick bid (goes well fresh).
Stratton Oakmont (IRE)
Dominant winner at Exeter (23f, soft) on return this time last year before again losing form (followed similar trajectory the previous season). First-time headgear likely to suit, and the booking of Harry Cobden (36% strike rate for yard) suggests fresh could again be the time to catch him.
Getaway Theatre (IRE)
Relatively lightly-raced 8-y-o. Went close to adding a third career success on reappearance at Warwick (25f, soft) this time last year. Back on a handy mark following disappointing end of season with yard and likely to make a bold bid (stays well) for her in-form yard.
Followango (IRE)
Course regular who has plenty of fair form over hurdles/fences. Belatedly opened her account in handicap chase here (3m, heavy) in January. Only 2 lb higher back hurdling and another who's entitled to bounce back following a break (runner-up on return last season).
La Higuera (IRE)
Strong-staying type. Ran well to finish third in this corresponding event on comeback last year. Progressive when readily landing a handicap double (soft/heavy) at Southwell in February. Perhaps not fully over those exertions when disappointing on hat-trick bid here in March. Worth another chance.
River Voyage (IRE)
Landed first leg of 3m handicap hurdle double here in 2024/5. Again revelled in the mud when opening his account over fences at this track in February prior to a laboured end-of-season effort at Chepstow (31f). Remains to be seen if he finds this enough of a test back hurdling.
Colonial Empire
Promising start in staying handicaps last season. Beaten by a well-backed one at Taunton before chasing home Blue In The West at Catterick in late-January. Underlined he isn't the most robust at Chepstow subsequently, however, could feature if connections have him back on song.
Midweek Voices (IRE)
Completed heavy-ground chase double at Gowran in early-2025. Now 4 lb below that mark following disappointing final season with Eoin Doyle. Potentially interesting if switch to excellent new yard does the trick (needs a market check).
Clondaw Royale (IRE)
Rallied late to capitalise on a drop in grade at Wetherby (3m, heavy) prior to creditable third in similar conditions over C&D in March. Likely needed his comeback at Worcester and connections may be eyeing a return to 0-100 company after this run.
Mister Barclay
Consistent on testing ground over hurdles. Game winner of this corresponding race 12 months ago. Only made it to the track once since, never looking like justifying support (rare poor jumping display) at Newton Abbot (good to soft) in May. Probably needs a career best off 4 lb higher than last year.
Blue In The West (IRE)
Hold-up sort who belatedly got off the mark at Exeter (21.5f) last season. Conceded first run to a progressive one when ¾-length second over same C&D prior to being undone by an untimely error when third at Warwick in May. Bigger performance in him off this mark if ready to roll.
