In a race where few arrive with compelling claims MATCHING ENERGY is taken to build on his encouraging Perth reappearance and prove too strong for recent Fontwell scorer Diamond White. John Dawson handicap newcomer Whin Cover is next on the list.

Timeform Comments

Bo Cruz (IRE)
Took well to chasing last season, landing handicaps around 3m at Catterick and Wetherby. Good second at Bangor (3m again) on final start. Down in trip back hurdling on return and might be best watched this time.
Diamond Jim (IRE)
Forged clear to justify support in junior hurdle at Haydock last December but has made a disappointing start to his handicap career, including a remote fifth on Worcester reappearance after a breathing operation. Cheekpieces are refitted.
Espoir Des Forges (FR)
Promise when placed in pair of 19f Warwick maiden hurdles in spring 2024 but has gone the wrong way since. A watching brief is the call after 19 months off unless the betting strongly hints otherwise.
Matching Energy
Bumper winner. Best effort over hurdles when close second on C&D handicap debut (good) in April. Shaped as if better for run when fifth of 9 on Perth reappearance (2m, soft) 25 days ago. Bold show likely with that behind him.
Diamond White (IRE)
Resumed progression after a breathing operation when winning 19f Fontwell handicap in a first-time tongue tie (retained) 19 days ago. Only raised 3 lb. Considered.
Disguisedlimit (IRE)
Still to win a race despite regularly being sent off at shortish odds for previous yards. Well held over hurdles at Aintree for new stable in May. Not an obvious one after that.
Karma De Cotte (FR)
Point runner-up was already on the retreat when making a serious error on C&D handicap debut when last seen in March. A watching brief is advised on return.
Whin Cover
Only modest form when placed in novice/maiden hurdles last month but brings unexposed potential to handicap debut over a trip which could suit. Also tongue tied first time.
Cool Master
Beaten a long way on all starts, including Worcester reappearance (2½m, soft) 19 days ago. First-time cheekpieces need to spark improvement.
Reliance Kid (FR)
Maiden who is out 10 lb of the handicap back hurdling on reappearance. Others are more persuasive.
