Timeform View

MOONFALL enjoyed his finest hour when landing the Britannia at Royal Ascot and can build on recent promise off a still handy-looking mark to bag another prestigious handicap here. Thunder Call put himself firmly in the picture for this when a ready C&D scorer last time and rates the biggest threat, although plenty of others can also play a prominent role, notably Aalto, Hawksbill, Machadadorp and Hickory in this superb renewal.

Timeform Comments

Poet Master (IRE)
Winless since 2024 but still capable of smart form, as shown when third in 7f Epsom Group 3 in June. Below par in Group 3 at Newcastle and Lennox Stakes at Goodwood since. Looks vulnerable back in handicap company conceding weight all round here too.
Pellitory
Versatile type notched a fourth career 7f victory at Haydock in August and took his form up another level in a first-time tongue tie when bagging 24-runner Ayr Gold Cup (6f, heavy) 2 weeks ago. Not taken lightly under a penalty.
Two Tribes
Stewards Cup winner of 2025 who finished runner-up in his bid for back-to-back Internationals over C&D in July. Again ran up to his best over C&D when third to Thunder Call since before being well held in the mud in Ayr Gold Cup 2 weeks ago. No surprise to see him bounce back returned here.
Arctic Dawn
Has improved over 7f this season, scoring at Doncaster in June before doubling his tally at Newmarket in August. Posted a good fourth of 12 in handicap at Newmarket (7f, firm) a week ago but nudged up 1 lb and this is tougher.
Five Ways
Won a Group 3 at Kempton (6f) before finishing fourth in the Middle Park in 2025. Standout effort of this year came when fourth in 7f Chester listed event in July. Well held in handicaps there and at Newmarket last 2 runs and others look much better treated at these weights.
Thunder Call
Upwardly-mobile colt who made a successful start in handicaps in strong event at York (6f) in June. Took another step forward when a stylish winner of 8-runner handicap over C&D (good to firm) 4 weeks ago by 2¾ lengths from The Fingal Raven. Hiked up 9 lb but he remains one to be interested in.
Great Acclaim
On a losing run but placed in Victoria Cup and Buckingham Palace over C&D this summer. Beat only one in 8-runner handicap at Newbury (7f, good to firm) last time though so needs to bounce back in a change of headgear.
Hickory (IRE)
Veteran goes really well here (dual C&D scorer) and bagged a fourth success at the track in 13-runner handicap (1m, good) last month by ¾ length from Moonfall. Can make his presence felt despite 4 lb rise.
Moonfall (IRE)
Gained first handicap win in Britannia (1m) here at the Royal Meeting in June. Resumed his progress after a break when runner-up in 1m handicaps back here and at Doncaster, doing well to pull clear of the rest on latter occasion having suffered poor run 1f out. Weighted to go close nudged up 2 lb.
Mezcala
Much improved this season, winning the Spring Mile at Doncaster (1m) and Buckingham Palace over C&D at the Royal Meeting in June. Not at all discredited when sixth of 17 in handicap at Doncaster (1m, good) 3 weeks ago.
Desert Shadow
Has found his niche since visored and dropped to 7f, bagging handicaps at Lingfield and Sandown this summer. Ran well off 9 lb higher when second of 8 in handicap back at Sandown (soft) last time. Another in the picture.
Golden Mind (IRE)
Ended 2025 with success at Doncaster (6f, heavy) in November. Showed promise initially this spring (excellent fourth in Victoria Cup over C&D) but has gone off the boil since.
River King (IRE)
Low-mileage 4-y-o doubled his tally when making all at Newbury (1m, firm) in June. Only twice raced since and has run well when fifth in Buckingham Palace over C&D at the Royal Meeting in June and when fourth of 17 under more patient tactics at Doncaster (1m, good) 3 weeks ago. One to consider.
Machadadorp
Looked useful when a dual 7f winner in novice company at Chester and Wetherby in early summer. Got right back on the up with stylish victory in 19-runner handicap at York (7f, soft) in August. Very much one to consider despite 8 lb hike.
Realign (FR)
Successful in first-time cheekpieces at Carlisle (6f) in May. Best effort in 3 strong handicaps since when a respectable tenth of 20 in Constantine at York (6f, good to soft) in August. Mark is easing but he still needs to step forward.
The Fingal Raven (IRE)
Doubled his tally in handicap at Meydan (1m) in January. Right back to form of late, runner-up over C&D before third of 12 at Newmarket (7f, firm) a week ago. No forlorn hope in a headgear change (first-time cheekpieces).
Hawksbill
Winless since 2024 (for Hugo Palmer) but is knocking on the door for his current yard, travelling strongly long way when second of 14 in handicap at Ayr (1m, heavy) 2 weeks ago. Must enter calculations off an unchanged mark.
Aalto (FR)
Landed the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket (7f) for the second time in July. Has continued in good form, third in International over C&D and a neck second of 16 at Newbury (7f, firm) 2 weeks ago when having to weave through. Well in the mix off same mark.
