Timeform View

MASKED MAN created a fine impression when successful at this fixture 12 months ago, and he may be able to repeat the feat for his bang-in-form stable. Daylatedollarshort and The Mighty Celt are likely improvers for excellent yards, while Kocktail Bleu and Washington also appeal in an ultra-competitive renewal.

Timeform Cash Out Hints

Moon Chime traded at more than 5 times Betfair SP and 2 times Betfair SP when winning on 2 of its last 5 starts: Take No Chances traded at 10% or less of Betfair SP and 50% or less of Betfair SP twice on 3 of its last 5 starts.

Timeform Comments

Take No Chances (IRE)
Very useful mare. Finished an eye-catching sixth on reappearance in this corresponding race last year. Subsequently enjoyed a cracking campaign in graded staying hurdles, finishing 7 lengths second in the Liverpool hurdle at Aintree (25f). This is probably a springboard to Wetherby next month.
Wellington Arch
Smashing handicapper. Overcame a ropey round of jumping to record a repeat success (stone higher than in 2025) in a Premier Handicap at Aintree in April, staying on well to better Ike Sport by 1¼ lengths. Will need to defy another career-high mark on return and may again have bigger spring targets.
Glynn Brae (IRE)
Useful 6-y-o. Resumed progress for a step up in trip when winning decisively at Ascot (2¾m) in March. Likely to be more forward than several making their reappearance here (won on return last season), for all Masked Man looks the main form hope for this red-hot stable.
Boombawn (IRE)
Smart chaser at his best. Finished last season in better heart than his finishing position in the Cheltenham Plate/Topham at Aintree might suggest. Returns to hurdling (first time in 2½ years) on an appreciably lower mark but this is probably a pipe-opener, unless the market suggests otherwise.
Rambo T (IRE)
Winner of this corresponding event 12 months ago. Repeat bid probably already in his trainer's mind when 10½ lengths behind Ike Sport at Aintree in May, merely passing beaten horses in the straight. Now 3 lb lower than last year, however, this looks to be a stronger renewal.
Ike Sport (FR)
Likeable handicapper, Chased home Wellington Arch at Aintree (2½m) prior to deservedly ending a 2-year losing sequence over the same C&D in May. Booking of Harry Cobden suggests he could be more forward than when down the field in last year's renewal.
Moon Chime
Caused something of a surprise when landing a career-best success in the Swinton at Haydock in May. Better than ever on the Flat with staying handicap wins either side of a well-beaten sixth in the Summer Hurdle at Market Rasen. Another valuable hurdling pot may just prove beyond him, though.
Masked Man (FR)
Athletic sort who scored in impressive style on hurdling debut (2m) at this fixture 12 months ago. Second in Grade 2 at Haydock before easily going one better at Lingfield and is much better than he showed in the Grade 1 Mersey. Very interesting on handicap bow, with yard sure to have targeted this.
The Mighty Celt (IRE)
Fairly useful debut winner in France for Noel George & Amanda Zetterholm. Shaped with plenty of encouragement in big spring handicaps over 2m for the Skeltons in 2025/6. The pick of Harry Skelton and open to improvement up in trip. May well land a valuable pot at some point this season.
Melon (GER)
Fairly useful Flat winner. Awarded a deserved first handicap hurdle success in a highly competitive event at Aintree (2m) in April, the first past the post subsequently demoted (jockey in breach of whip rules). Arrives fit from a spin on the level, though others perhaps better handicapped.
Daylatedollarshort (IRE)
Successful sole start in Irish points. Most progressive 4-y-o last season, only denied a hat-trick by a useful improver at Punchestown (19f) in April. Will continue to go the right way and could have a big say for last year's winning connections (Sean Bowen prefers him to Rambo T).
Rightsotom (GER)
Fairly useful handicap hurdler in 2024/5. Ran to a similar level as a novice chaser last season, off since pulling up (following a bad mistake) at Kempton in March. Something to find at the weights on his belated return to hurdling.
Kocktail Bleu (FR)
Front runner who finished second in the Dovecote prior to going one better in Newbury novice. Ran well off this mark when 6¾-length fourth in valuable novice final at Sandown in April. Expected to improve for this longer trip, too, given his pedigree/physique (very much a chaser on looks).
Our Guide (IRE)
Debut bumper winner (beat Zeus Power) who typically found plenty for pressure to land a hat-trick at Worcester (2½m). Would have added to his tally with a more professional display there in July (again did not jump well). Remains with potential, though now faces the demands of a big-field handicap.
Washington
Bidding to make a third consecutive winning reappearance at this fixture. Returns as a veteran and now 4 lb lower than last year after losing his form over the winter/spring. Dangerous if excellent yard has him back on song.
Letterston Lily
Smooth-travelling mare. Going the right way in 2½m handicaps this year, only denied a third calendar success by one with a good record fresh at Perth (2½m) latest. Likely to be suited by a big field/strong pace, and she may well progress again.
Handlethekettle (IRE)
Front runner who has an excellent strike rate and is lightly raced for his age. Again ran well fresh/impressed with his jumping when runner-up in his bid to make it 4-4 at Worcester last time. That form has taken a few knocks, though, and Gavin Sheehan now looks elsewhere.
Perseus Way (IRE)
Has made hay from his much-reduced Flat/hurdle marks in the North this summer. Runner-up in Class 3 event at Hexham on latest start in this sphere prior to rattling off a Flat double at Hamilton last month. Clearly thriving for present yard but this may prove a bridge too far.
Just A Glance
Created a good impression when making it 2-2 over hurdles here (2m) with a zestful display in March. Progressed again when 6 lengths third in listed mares novice at Haydock (21f) on latest start in March. Will need another chunk of improvement from out of the weights on handicap bow. RESERVE
Grand Conqueror (IRE)
Won back-to-back small-field events at Plumpton/Fontwell last December. Went the right way in handicaps for his capable yard thereafter, finishing 1-length third at Fakenham in May (2½m). Work to do from out of the weights, though should at least benefit from a stronger gallop here. RESERVE
