Timeform View

This looks wide open. BEAUTY CHOICE did well to overcome traffic problems when going in at Redcar recently and is taken to defy a 3 lb higher mark at the chief expense of Golden Strike who bids for a fourth victory of 2026 on the back of his latest York success. Last year's victor Lir Speciale can also have a big say too if shrugging off a lesser effort here last time. King's School completes the shortlist.

Timeform Comments

Thunder Roar
C&D scorer but winless in 2026 and failed to build on a good Redcar fourth (first-time tongue strap) when eleventh of 14 at Nottingham (1m, soft) 3 days ago. Cheekpieces go back on now.
Irish Nectar
Took advantage of a reduced mark to score with plenty in hand at Leicester (6f) and Haydock (5f) in October. Sent off 4/9 under a double penalty but only sixth of 7 at Newmarket (5f, good to soft) last time. Has a first go over 7f here.
Lir Speciale (IRE)
Ended 2025 with back-to-back C&D wins in the mud, including this contest. Back to form when third at Haydock (1m) in October but only eighth in first-time cheekpieces here (1m, heavy) 2 weeks ago. Still can't be dismissed off a handy-looking mark.
King's School
Registered a first win away from Newcastle with a career best in 12-runner handicap over C&D (heavy) 14 days ago. Up 5 lb but not taken lightly in his current mood.
Golden Strike (IRE)
Reliable sort who gained a third win of the season in 20-runner handicap at York (7f, soft) last month. Very much one to consider despite a 4 lb weights rise for yard with good record in this.
On The River
Winless this season but 3 times a runner-up and possibly found the race coming too soon when sixth of 10 in handicap here (1m, heavy) 2 weeks ago. No surprise to see him bounce back.
Bridget's View
Without a win this year but has performed with credit last 4 outings, fifth of 15 at Newmarket (1m, good to soft) last time. Possibilities.
We Dare To Dream (IRE)
Won at Beverley (7.5f) in May last year. However, form was mixed later in the campaign and after a 12-month absence he has offered little at Nottingham and Catterick recently. Tongue strap goes on for the first time.
Intrusively
Ended a long losing sequence at Newcastle (7f) in October but went freely when a below-form fourth of 9 in 1m handicap there 22 days ago. Bounce back is needed.
Raatea
Without a win this year but he has made the frame 3 times. Again slowly away though when eleventh here (6f, good to firm) last time so needs to get back on track.
Bowood
Free-going sort who completed a double over 1m at Newcastle last autumn. Posted some respectable efforts on all-weather/turf this year for Ivan Furtado but a habitual slow starter and virtually refused to race at Southwell last time. Eyeshields go on for new yard here.
Beauty Choice
Capitalised on a reduced mark to end losing run in 14-runner handicap at Redcar (6f, heavy) 12 days ago, doing well to overcome a troubled passage. Back up 3 lb but this veteran can go very well again.
